I was first diagnosed with membranous glomerulonephritis in 1976. At the time half the people with that diagnosis had no kidney function left after five years. I have made it thirty years as of August. While I still have some kidney function left I have been told it is time to get the surgery to prepare for dialysis. I have been investigating the alternatives. The most attractive alternative seems to be home hemodialysis especially a variety known as nocturnal home hemodialysis. This may require a helper. Fortunately, both
jmattax and
skitzycat have expressed interest in doing this. Doing it at home has the advantage of letting me schedule it around work. If I am able to arrange the nocturnal variety there is the additional advantage that it keeps your blood a lot cleaner since you can dialyze for many more hours per week (48 hours vs. 12-15 hours).
