Title: Cold Amnesia
Warnings/Notes: Warning for memory loss/similarities to Alzheimer's. I have a lot of Ice King feelings. He's...not a likable character, but you can definitely feel for him and his tragic backstory, even while you condemn his princess-kidnapping ways.
The Ice King is the former main antagonist (now mostly annoyance) in Adventure Time. He’s obsessed with finding a princess to love him, and constantly kidnaps princesses (though he sees it as ‘rescuing’ them from their boring princess duties). But, before the Mushroom War, he was a human named Simon Petrikov, who worked in antiquities. At the time he also had a fiancee, named Betty, whom he called his ‘princess’ and loved dearly. At some point in his career he bought a strange crown from a dock worker in Scandinavia; this crown was his downfall. He put it on to make Betty laugh, but instead it caused him to black out and have strange visions. When he awoke, he couldn’t remember what he had done, but Betty soon left. Simon never saw her again.
In the aftermath of the Mushroom War, in a world decimated by nuclear destruction and filled with irradiated mutants, Simon wandered, lost. He found Marceline (not yet the Vampire Queen) as a young girl and took care of her until he lost himself and his memories completely to the crown and its madness.
This mix picks up directly after the Mushroom War, with Simon wandering the world. The first half chronicles his travels with Marceline and descent into madness. The second half is done as more of a character study of Simon as the Ice King, his loneliness and self-hatred over the thousand years of his existence, and his desire for a princess to love him (his princess, though he no longer truly remembers Betty as a person).
(if you really want to have some Ice King feels, watch the episode Simon & Marcy; it really gives a good overview of Simon/Ice King, and you’ll never hear the theme song to Cheers the same way again)
