Round #22; Sailor Moon - Sailor Moon & Sailor Galaxia

Fandom: Sailor Moon
Subject: Sailor Moon & Sailor Galaxia
Title: Don't Call This Love
Warnings/Notes: I've been having a lot of Sailor Moon feelings lately, ok? Don't judge me. Major spoilers for the final arc of the Sailor Moon manga; potentially implied suicide (depends on how you view the character death, I guess; warning for that, too)?

This mix is for the enemies-to-maybe-comrades relationship between Sailor Moon and Sailor Galaxia in the manga (not the anime, whole different beast of a relationship, there). Throughout the storyline (well, once they finally meet, anyway), Sailor Moon seems to feel much more sympathy towards Galaxia than she does towards Sailor Moon, so I tried to reflect those disparate views of each other in this mix. To do this, it alternates between Sailor Moon and Sailor Galaxia's POVs, with each song serving as a response to the previous one.

Sailor Galaxia is the main antagonist of the final arc of Sailor Moon. She was born on a planet she referred to as ‘trash’ and wandered miserably alone until she discovered she had the powers of a Sailor Senshi. That wasn’t enough for her, though: she desired to have the strongest power in the galaxy and left her home planet to find a way to gain that power. She eventually found her way to the Galaxy Cauldron, from where all Star Seeds (crystals contained in all of life, and from which Senshi get their power) come and built an empire there. To gain more power, she took (or had her underlings take) the Star Seeds from other Sailor Senshi, seeing them as weak and unworthy in comparison to herself.

However, she knew she was being used by a being known as Chaos, so she planned to manipulate Sailor Moon (for whom she felt nothing but contempt) into destroying Chaos for her, immolating them both (Sailor Moon and Chaos) in the process and leaving Sailor Galaxia to be the most powerful Senshi in the universe. This plan backfired, however, and Chaos attempted to throw Galaxia into the Galaxy Cauldron, which would have destroyed her if Sailor Moon had not rescued her. In the face of Sailor Moon’s purity, hope, and love Galaxia lost her will to fight, but gave Sailor Moon a final burst of hope with which to fight Chaos before being destroyed for good, herself.

We Are - Ana Johnsson
Sailor Moon
One step forward making two steps back (my oh my)
Riding piggy on the bad boy’s back for life.
Lining up for the grand illusion,
no answers for no questions asked.
Lining up for the execution
without knowing why.
...
You wash your hands and come out clean
but fail to recognize the enemies within.
You say we’re not responsible
but we are, we are.

Gravity - The Dresden Dolls
Sailor Galaxia
Gravity works slowly if you notice it at all.
Some of us are getting mighty lucky (aren’t we?)
If you had to live with this you’d rather lie than fall.
You think I can’t fly? Well you just watch me.

Bleeding Out - Imagine Dragons
When the hour is nigh
and hopelessness is sinking in,
and the wolves all cry
to fill the night with hollering.
When your eyes are red
and emptiness is all you know,
with the darkness fed
I will be your scarecrow.
...
Cuz I’m bleeding out,
so if the last thing that I do
is to bring you down
I’ll bleed out for you.
So I bare my skin and I count my sins
and I close my eyes and I take it in,
and I’m bleeding out, I’m bleeding out for you, for you.

Creeper (Coming For You) - Jakalope
Oh, I’m playing you for a fool,
you fell for every broken rule.
I’m doing what I owe to you.
It’s been a long time coming
and I’m coming for you.
While I,
silently I scream,
inside I barely breathe.
Silently I scream.

This Is Where We Are - Ravens and Chimes
Did you build walls up,
did you build them up all around you,
to keep you from,
to keep you from the howling wind?
And to each one seeking the words that they need,
I’ll stand beside you now.
And to each one listening to wind in the trees,
my voice behind you now.
And I can see she’s one of us
in how I stand beside you now.
This is where we are.
This is where we are.
Don’t be frightened.

Everybody’s Fool - Evanescence
Look, here she comes now.
Bow down and stare in wonder.
Oh, how we love you,
too bad we didn’t know she
never was and never will be.
You don’t know how you’ve betrayed me,
and somehow you’ve got everybody fooled.
...
You’re not real and you can’t save me.

The Great Escape - P!nk
I can understand how, when the edges are rough,
and they cut you like the tiny slivers of glass,
and you feel too much,
and you don’t know how long you’re gonna last.
But everyone you know, is trying to smooth it over,
find a way to make the hurt go away.
But everyone you know, is trying to smooth it over,
like you’re trying to scream underwater.
But I won’t let you make the great escape.
I’m never gonna watch you checking out of this place.

My Skin - Natalie Merchant
Take a look at my body,
look at my hands.
There’s so much here
that I don’t understand.
Your face-saving promises,
whispered like prayers,
I don’t need them.
I’ve been treated so wrong,
I’ve been treated so long
as if I’m becoming untouchable.
Contempt loves the silence,
it thrives in the dark,
with fine winding tendrils
that strangle the heart.
They say that promises
sweeten the blow,
but I don’t need them.

Tragedy - Christina Perri
If you could envision
the meaning of a tragedy.
You might be
surprised to hear it’s you and me.
But when it comes down to it
you never made the most of it.
So I cried, cried, cried,
and now I say goodbye.
And I won’t be made a fool of...
don’t call this love.
