Title:Strangeness and Charm
Warnings/Notes:I didn’t really ship this until the one of the latest issues of the comic (#25). I could see it in the show before and kind of shipped it in an offhand, yeah they’d be cute together, way. Now I ship it like it's my job, and I have ALL the feels. The comics aren’t, strictly speaking, canon, but this mix borrows pretty heavily from the backstory given in issue #25 as well as from the show.
(if you want to read the issue of the comic I used, part 1, part 2, and part 3 can be read in scanned form on tumblr. you can read and understand it without having seen Adventure Time, but you should know that Ricardio is a recurring villain voiced by George Takei. also he's the Ice King's heart, but that's not as important)
Marceline Abadeer is the rockstar daughter of the demon king, and vampire queen in her own right. (Princess) Bonnibel Bubblegum is the self-made princess, creator, and sole ruler of the Candy Kingdom in the Land of Ooo. But before either of them grew into these roles, they were just Marcy and Bonni, best friends (and maybe more) in the strange, post-apocalyptic world that existed after the Great Mushroom War. Marceline had dreams of becoming a world famous musician, while Bonni preferred science and creating things.
They drifted apart (and occasionally back together) as Marceline pursued her rockstar dreams and Bonni built herself a kingdom and inhabitants to rule. In the end, Marceline left her home in the Land of Ooo to get away from it all for a while. It’s unclear how long she was gone, but I’m willing to bet decades or even centuries (they’re both effectively immortal) went by before she came back to Ooo. It took some time, but they rekindled their friendship (*cough*romance*cough*), because, after all, they work better together than they do alone. They always have.
Structurally, this sort of alternates POVs, Marcy then Bonni and so on, with the last song being both POVs. I hope you enjoy!
