I think yoga's doing me the world of good. Not only from a strength perspective but the mental stillness angle also.
I mean, my head (or at least the inside parts) tend to move at a pretty extreme rate. We're talking skeleton bob speed here. And not always at the same time and not always in the same direction. So just to get an hour of of focus during a week of extremism is good for my head.
Considering the physical trauma I suffered early in my life and the chemical trauma over the past decade, I'm actually kinda impressed at the longevity of my greymass.
And it helps my speech a lot more too, having a emotional base.
I just spent over $100 on a combination of Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic memorabilia, Saints memorabilia and Steeler stuff. It's not a lot, just 2 throws, a towel and a few little bits.
In other news, I've now nicknamed my new workplace "The Vet".
This tips the cap to Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia which was the Eagles/Phillies home stadium for a couple of decades.
It was also acknowledged as the worst stadium in the league over the last 5-10 years of its life and is still the only stadium responsible for the cancellation of a game, due to the fact that the opposing coach refused to allow his players to play on it.
The water pipes leaked constantly all year round, the opposing team's locker rooms were ankle-deep in water at times, there were rats and cockroaches despite the best efforts of the exterminators.
Oh, and then there was the pitch. Astroturf aka concrete painted green. Factor in the Gang Green Defense of the eighties and early nineties and its no surprise at how hated the stadium was.
And as it doubled as a baseball stadium there were lines and divots and ridges where there shouldn't be lines and divots and ridges, and boy o boy did players blow out knees. Including that poor Chicago player who blew BOTH knees when both cleats got caught running a pattern. No one touched him but his career was over in a heartbeat.
And then there were the fans. Who booed, drank and threw things (usually snowballs but batteries were the next best thing in September) at opposing players and sometimes their own when the Eagles weren't doing so well. They also broke the legs of opposing mascots, cheered for injured opposing players (Michael Irvin) and told Santa Claus to f**k off on more than one occasion.
As NFL.com put described once "The Eagles play in an antiquated deathtrap in front of fans that would heckle Jesus".
My workplace isn't THAT bad, but it does have this wonderful 1970's theme to it, there's a skull n crossbones flag in the staff room (don't ask), half the chairs are busted, the lack of hygiene in the kitchen's is probably what gave me D&V last week and the general ambiance is that of a NYC S&M dungeon waiting room and a Vladivostok airport departure lounge.
Retro, for all the wrong reasons.
I love it!
Ahh.. filth!
Just the attitude to have if you're doing life saving transplant surgery.
I'm really looking forward to Tuesday when I'm back in work.
