i've just seen the first episode of the second season of the L Word.
wow, you can tell someone's been rewarded with a massive budget hike.
i say this because what i liked about the first series was how low key it was. the titles were modest, and with a couple of exceptions the locations didn't change that much.
now with the show being a hit we have exteriors all over california including dana and alice running up a bloody mountain at one point and a lot more variety in the locations because there's a lot more freedom with the script cos everyone has more money to play with.
what annoyed me though was the opening credits.
i get the impression that the creator was given a checklist of possible additions and just went down the list like a kid in a candystore with unlimited money.
I can picture the conversation in my mind:
"I'll have green screen rotating graphics, and day-glow colours, and everyone wearing designer labels, and a song not a soundtrack but a SONG with lyrics and i want all this in an evening session".
i admit i was sitting there going WTF? at 6pm this evening.
but the story was fabulous, everyone's script worked, the only bad points was Alice wearing this horrid frilly blousey thing at the opening.
And I lurve Ivan.
really, i like the character so far as well as the actress carrying it off.
whether she carries the "trans-man look" off well I can't say. but i like the character.
