on the news today, or The Wright Stuff: a whimsical debate show which tries to pass itself off as news, was the story of a married couple who are teachers, and have been suspended from their posts pending dismissal because they posted a sex video of themselves on an adult website.
they are supposedly breaching the trust of the children in their care and are allowed to be sacked because teachers are held in higher account than other ordinary humans.
now it was an ADULT website, so we assume that no children (legally) saw these photos and the complaints are only sourcing from their parents and the local council.
But i ask you, is it all over the top?
the pair are married, consenting adults, so what's the problem?
it's risky i admit, and if any of the pupils found out about it it would make the teacher's lives difficult.
but illegal?
a sackable offense?
hmmm..
a couple of posts ago i had this whole debate about the personal habits of nurses, who are held in the same regard concerning their verboten-ness to indulge in anything that might bring the NMC into disrepute.
ok, so if i'm a nurse (i am a nurse) and i'm hanging out in an S&M club or fetish dungeon or whatever, and the guy next to me keels over from a heart attack what do i do?
if i don't help him he dies and i can be accused of not intervening when i could despite my training thus breaking my code of conduct.
Or if i DO help him i risk being exposed as being a nurse in a S&M club - and then breaching my code of conduct regarding my etiquette outside my working hours.
It's a massive Catch 22.
and it's unfair.
so ;-P
i don't think the teachers should be fired, but as he's on the sick now and she's resigned i guess these things will work themselves out.
and as a school in Scotland has been closed down cos half the kids have got swine flu i think the government is gonna need every nurse it can get its hands on.
or we could just do a Doomsday and seal Scotland off? ;-)
