Part Three

Shortly after Carl had left for work, Haley noticed Bobbi walking towards her house. She ran outside to greet her big sister.
"Hey, pregnant lady!" Haley chuckled as she walked up to Bobbi.
"Hey, you watch it. I might get to say that to you pretty soon, so choose your words carefully." The two girls shared a laugh.
"So what are you doing, Bobbi?" Haley asked curiously.
"I'm actually on my way to the market...."
"Ok, hun, the market is in the opposite direction, and you are freakin' nine months pregnant! What in the world are you doing walking over here???" Haley asked shockingly.
"First of all, I wanted to stop by here and ask you the hugest favor known to man, and second of all, my doctor thought it would be good for me to get some exercise in. That's why I'm walking," Bobbi said calmly.
"Ok, Bobbi, your doctor is insane. Do you want me to call you a cab? Let me call you a cab!" Haley worried.
"Haley, calm down. I'll be fine. I trust Dr. Cheesehead. You should too," Bobbi reassured her younger sister.
"His name alone would make me suspicious, but alright. Now what's the favor you wanted to ask me?" Haley asked.
"Ok, so huge favor! Billy needs to go to San Fran'sim'sco for a week! Total last minute. His boss is being an ass about it. And well, since I'm due any day now, Billy thought it would be best if I went with him. The last thing he wants to do is miss the birth of his first child," Bobbi said, then paused.
"I understand that. What's the favor?" Haley asked.
"I don't want to pull Sadie out of school for a week. She's doing so well. Straight A's!" Bobbi said proudly, "So I was wondering if she could stay here with you and Carl. If it's too much trouble, I'll ask Helayna, Rayanne, or Gretchen, but....." Bobbi said, then was interrupted.
"Absolutely! Why in the world would I not want to spend a week with my little niece??? I'm so excited!" Haley said happily.
"Oh good! Thank you so much, Haley. Really. I appreciate it so much," Bobbi said thankfully.
"Don't worry about it. You're doing us the favor. We adore Sadie, you know that."
Bobbi smiled at her sister.
"So, how do you feel anyway? How is the pregnancy going?" Haley asked.

"I feel HUMONGOUS!!!!!" Bobbi said raising her voice causing Haley to giggle.
"Well you look beautiful," Haley complimented her sister.
"Oh please! I look anything BUT beautiful," Bobbi laughed, "Alright, I gotta get to the market. There are a few things I need to pick up before we go, so how's noon? To bring Sadie here?"
"Perfect. Don't worry about a thing!" Haley said.

"Thanks babe," Bobbi said as she squeezed her sister, "And keep me updated on you, too ok?"
"Ok."
"Promise?"
"Promise."

Haley said goodbye to her sister, then went inside to call her doctor.

She had always been a patient person, but this was driving her crazy. She needed to know.
"Uh, yes, this is Haley Maroulis. I'm calling to speak with Doctor Chase, please?" Haley asked politely.
"One moment, please." The receptionist sounded swamped. Haley waited patiently, then heard someone pick up the line, "Mrs. Maroulis?"
"Yes," she asked.
"I'm sorry, but Doctor Chase is with someone right now. Could I take a message please?" the receptionist asked.
"Well, maybe you could help me. I'm calling about my test results," Haley said hopefully.
"Mmmhmmm, what sort of test results?" she asked.
"Well, he tested me for almost everything, but I'm calling about the pregnancy results," Haley said nervously.
"Ok, let me see here," the receptionist said as she looked in her files, "If we have received the test results back, unfortunately I'm not authorized to discuss them with you. That would be Doctor Chase's department, but I can tell you if we've got them back or not. Hold on, juuuuuust a sec."

Haley waited patiently.
"Ok, Mrs. Maroulis, it looks like we have not received anything yet. But I'll make sure to let Doctor Chase know you called."
"Thank you," Haley said disappointed and hung up the phone.

No answers just yet. How much longer could she wait?

Haley decided to shower before Sadie was due to arrive. She wanted to be fresh, clean, and ready to take care of the little munchkin. She loved that little girl more than life itself. And she was absolutely thrilled that she and Carl were going to be with her for an entire week. Haley just wished she could get other things off her mind. She just wanted an answer. Was she pregnant? Or wasn't she? She would just have to wait for now.

About an hour later, Sadie arrived excited more than ever to spend the week with her favorite auntie.

"Hi, Aunt Haley!" Sadie said excitedly.
"Hey, kiddo. What do you want to do today?" Haley asked.
"I dunno, where's Uncle Carl?"
"He's at work. He'll be home around five o'clock," Haley answered.
"Oh. Wanna talk?" Sadie asked.
Haley smiled. Her eight year old niece always seemed to amaze her, "Come on, let's sit on the couch."

Haley snuggled up close to Sadie as they sat in front of the fire.
"Haley?" Sadie asked.
"Yeah?"
"I was in a fire when I was a little girl," Sadie said out of nowhere.
"I know you were, sweetie. Your mommy saved your life."
"Yeah," Sadie paused, "Were you there?"
"No, I was living at Carl's place at that time," Haley explained.
"So you lived here?" Sadie asked curiously.
"No, this is our new home. We bought this house a week before we got married."
"Oh," Sadie said softly.

"You love Uncle Carl, huh?" Sadie asked.
"I do very much."
"That's super."
Haley smiled as she chuckled inside at her cute little niece's remarks, "You're something else, you know that?"

Sadie giggled, "Mommy tells me all the time."

Haley snuggled with Sadie for a few more minutes until she felt her tummy growl, "I'm going to clean up a bit, and then make us some burgers. How does that sound?"
"Great! I'm going to watch Ducktales!" Sadie yelled as she ran into the livingroom.

Haley gathered up some trash and delivered them to the bin out front of her home, when she saw her sister Helayna walking up to her.
"Hey!" Helayna screamed from ten feet away.
"Helayna! What are you doing here?" Haley asked as her younger sister approached her.
"I came to see you, what else?"
"Well that's great. Sadie is inside. I was about to make some burgers. Would you like to join us?" Haley asked smiling.

"Under one conditon," Helayna said with a stern voice.
"What's that?" Haley asked.
"That you actually cook the meat this time!"
"What?!?" Haley laughed out.
"Uh, yeah. Last time you asked me how I like my burgers cooked, and I said well done...." Helayna began.
"Yeah, and I cooked them well done!" Haley said defending herself.
"You did not! It was more like extra rare! I swear that meat didn't even touch the frying pan!" Helayna said giggling.
"Oh shut up! It was not that bad! Why didn't you just tell me you liked your burgers burnt and black??" Haley asked giving her sister a hard time.
"Well I'm thinking I'll need to! In order for it to be at least medium rare," Helayna said jokingly as she followed her sister inside.

As Haley prepared lunch for herself, Helayna, and Sadie, she thought of Carl. She wondered what he was thinking of at that moment. She wished she knew what he thought of this whole pregnancy thing. Was it too soon? Should they have been married longer before bringing a child into their lives? Either way, she knew everything would work out because of how much they loved each other. Carl was one of a kind, and Haley felt like the luckiest girl on Earth being his wife.

"So, you haven't heard anything from the doctor yet, huh?" Helayna asked as they sat down to eat.
"Nothing. This is so irritating. I just want to know, ya know?" Haley said depressingly.
"Mommy is having a baby!" Sadie said excitedly.
"I know!" Haley said joining in her excitment, "I bet you can't wait for that!"
"I hope I have a little sister, so I can teach her how to be pretty!" Sadie said as she took a bite out of her burger.
Helayna giggled, "Well if she was going to have to learn how to be pretty, you would definitely be the one to teach her!"
The three girls sat in silence for about ten seconds until Helayna spoke again, "Just hang in there, ok? I know it's frustrating. You just have to be patient."
"Easier said, then done....but yeah, you're right," Haley agreed.
"I usually always am!" Helayna joked.

Haley turned to Sadie, "Your aunt Helayna is full of herself! Did you know that?"
Sadie giggled, "Well yeah! Everybody knows that!"
They began to laugh and the two sisters continued to pick on each other as usual.

After lunch, Sadie asked Haley if it would be alright if she could jump on the bed. Of course, being the auntie who spoils her niece tremendously, Haley said yes. She and Helayna went upstairs to supervise, just to make sure Sadie wouldn't hurt herself. This gave the two sisters a chance to talk about everything amoungst themselves.
"Do you think we're ready, Helayna? To have a baby?" Haley asked.
"If you are pregnant, it won't matter, Haley. You'll have to be ready. You and Carl love each other so much, and...." Helyana started to whisper, "The way you took care of Sadie when she was a little toddler jut proves that you're ready to mother a child anytime."
"Thank you, Helayna. You're the best."
"Yeah, well....."

"So how are things going with Puck?" Haley asked nervously. It wasn't something that was talked about, but Puck had been secretly seeing someone else for a very long time now. Helyana knew. Haley knew. They all knew. She didn't understand why Helayna put up with it. Love, she guessed. But that wasn't love. It was loneliness.
"Alright," Helayna hesitated, "Alright, I guess."
Haley looked at her sister, then out of nowhere cried out, "Well I think you should rip off his head and plaster it up on the wall, then charge people ten bucks a pop to come see The Great Jackass of Sim City!" Haley realized what she had just said. She waited for a reaction.
Helayna began to laugh, and then continued to laugh some more, "Oh my God, Haley! That's so funny! I really should do that."
Haley laughed, "It was a joke."
"Oh it was?" Helayna kidded. It felt good for her to laugh about it, "Well I gotta get going. Marley will be home from school soon."
"Tell him I said hello," Haley said.
"ME TOO! ME TOO!" Sadie yelled as she jumped on their bed.
Helayna giggled, "Alright, Sadie. Don't hurt youself!"
"Yeah, kiddo. Come on, that's enough jumping for today!" Haley said nicely.

Sadie jumped off the bed and ran up to Haley, "I'm getting married someday, Aunt Haley!"
"You are?? To who, might I ask?" Haley asked.
"Hmmmm, I dunno, but I hope he's funny looking like Uncle Carl!"
Helayna busted out laughing as Haley stood there in shock, "You little munchkin!"
Sadie screamed laughing, and ran away from Haley.

"I have some business to take care of," Haley joked.
"Well, while you attend to that, I must be off. Call me, ok? Let me know what's up." Helayna said goodbye as Haley chased after her niece.

Later on that night, as Haley washed the dishes, she heard the carpool drop Carl off outside. She went outside to greet him. They kissed and went upstairs to relax.

"So no word from Doctor Chase, huh?" Carl said in a disappointed tone.
"Nope. Not yet. I did call, but the results hadn't come in yet."
"How long does it take to receive results for a pregnancy test??" Carl asked getting agitated.
"Apparently, too long."
Carl looked over at his wife, "Come here."

"I love you, Haley."
"I love you too, Carl."
"No matter what happens," Carl said, "It's for the best. Right?"
"Right," Haley agreed, feeling so very lucky to have him by her side.

"Is Sadie asleep?" Carl asked grinning.
"Yes."
Carl reached over and kissed her passionately. And well, we all know what happened after that. :D

That night, Haley laid in bed thinking of everything all at once. Normally she wouldn't be so scared about something like this, but it was just really bothering her, and she didn't know what it was. Haley stopped thinking and forced herself to sleep. Tomorrow was a big day.

The next morning, Carl left for work feeling very very good.

But Haley still felt sick to her stomach. She sat in the kitchen and patiently waited for the doctor to call. Just then, her cell phone rang. She answered.

"Haley?"
"Yes?" she said.
"This is Doctor Chase. We received the test results back."
"And?" Haley asked feeling her stomach turn with every word.
"Well, I know you were wishing for good news.....but I'm afraid what I have to tell you, isn't so good."
