He rides in on a horse that looks like it's seen better days, in worn and bloody gear, and the first words out of his mouth are "Jesus be damned." Turns out these words are addressed to the horse, because he follows it up by leaning along her neck and adding, "Of all the places to bring me, you Satan-bred animal. Where the hell is it?"

It was dead strange.  It seemed that one moment, Lynet was in her bed - sick beyond help, and lonely - feeling that all the good had gone out of the world.  And now, but a moment later, she is standing in the foyer of some grand, strange house, not a thing like her cottage, or any castle she's known, and she feels ... quite well, actually.

The decorations are still up, and in a large open room somewhere in the Mansion, Jaenelle's set up a party. It's a curious melding of Christmas (or what she knows of it) and Winsol, with a tree in one corner, presents stacked underneath.
