There's a certain irony in music being my passion and wanting to make music. I suspect something's . . . I wouldn't say wrong . . . More like . . . odd about my hearing ( Read more... )

You should really get the ear thing checked out. :O Even if you don't want to get it fixed or whatever, you should at least know what's going on! It'd be terrible if it lead to some serious health problem that could have been easily prevented if you got it checked out. :O I mean what if you go deaf in that ear entirely? That would be awful. Thanks for the concern! I had the same logic you did about at least finding out-one less thing to worry about and all. Yeah, the deafness possibility crossed my mind. I think of my old friend Beethoven, who lost his hearing in his mid-20s, and whaddya know, look at my position in life right now: 'bout to turn 26. It really is eerie the number of commonalities we share, at least 5 I can think of. But that's a comfort, too, to know that at least there was someone in the world who had the same idiosyncrasies as me.

I actually checked up on google what it could be, searched some symptoms, some weeks after I made my connection. This was the closest match, but even APD doesn't seem wholly accurate. I checked accounts of people that retained it into adulthood, and they speak of it as being a curse. No one mentioned the positive (and the positive really trumps everything) I experience (or maybe they just weren't fortunate like me to discover the trance genre).

Then I discovered this, and I don't have some of the problems listed there at all ( ... )

Wow, this was such a delightfully long post, and not just on trivial little matters either - it's so refreshing to read into other people's life (please don't misinterpret that as a creeper statement) compared to what I've been doing this entire school year - read research articles or textbooks that are more useful as firewood ( ... )

Hello, it's been a while (and alas, it may continue to be)! Sorry I haven't been active on LJ in the past months; been dealing with the matter of figuring myself out lol. I'm glad my post had a positive impact on someone else and, no, I don't find your comment creeper-ly at all. :p Your situation reminds me of a similar one I faced as a college student, reading dry articles for a research paper until my research led me to an online Victorian journal/diary of this man who was a sex addict-fascinating, as you can imagine.

I love how people can surprise you. I wouldn't have guessed you have a musical background. That just cements our friendship. :D I also wouldn't have guessed that what comes naturally to me is apparently a skill people train themselves to learn. :O I'm relieved my discussion on countermelodies makes sense to another person. I would not have been surprised to get a "That's so weird" lol ( ... )
