I'm still hung up about Black Sails...

Damn, this show. I can't believe it went there. And not only did it go there, but it was planned right from the start; this was something that Toby Stephens knew about Flint all along. I can't believe they teased Flint's backstory out in tiny little nuggets and completely misdirected the audience about Mrs Barlow and Thomas Hamilton all this time ( Read more... )

This interview with Toby Stephens, where he talks about how he was given the whole backstory for Flint before he took the role. He just didn't know when they were going to reveal it, but he knew all along what was driving Flint, what his endgame was.

I'm hoping the title of the song is not a spoiler -- I'll be quite put out if it is, as I haven't seen the show yet.

Hardly a spoiler - they're pirates! Rum, sodomy and the lash, and all that. Plus, other than Last Saskatchewan Pirate, it's the only song I know about pirates...

No need to ask why the rum's gone -- Flint's crew 'as drunk it all!

Can you mean to say you've never had The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything inflicted upon you? Then, please, allow me to thank you for LSP (which is now attempting to settle in my brain)!

I have never had that inflicted on me! And when I get a quiet moment in the office (ie. no colleagues) I will allow you to do so!

Well, obviously NOW I have to watch this entire show from the start. We never got past the pilot at the time, none of the characters were particularly likeable and the actor who plays Silver irritated me. And Crossbones was shinier. *g*

Oh hell yes. If you stick with it, trust me, you won't regret it. I think the first few episodes lag a bit, but I found once the pirate politics and jostling for position takes off it was fascinating watching. And yeah, none of them are really 'likeable' in the sense that not one of them are good or nice or kind, but again...pirates!

And Silver is still annoying as all heck, but I think he's meant to be. He's definitely less of a focus in S2 though, thankfully.
