How I started painting Arashi this year

As  much as I love painting, I used to be very scared of drawing/painting the boys. I’m not too sure exactly what I’m afraid of, perhaps I gave myself too much pressure as I feared the outcome. What if it didn’t turn out well? They are so beautiful I wouldn’t forgive myself if I made them ugly. Things got worse after I stopped painting entirely for about 2 years as life caught up on me, I was so busy with work and new responsibilities I just didn’t have the mood to paint.

I eventually started picking up my brush again, but would just paint things that are somewhat related to them, mostly Ohno, like this lily from Maou.

Or this fish.

Fishes, because Ohno painted two pugs.

When I was preparing to go to Japan last summer, I was troubled with what I should bring as a gift for my Ohno-fanpal who is a tea ceremony instructor. A friend suggested that painting something for her would show more sincerity, so I decided to paint Ohno, as how he carried out tea ceremony during Waku Waku Gakkou. I wanted to use Chinese ink at first, but to my horror, it dried up  XD So I had to use black watercolour instead. I nearly tore the paper while painting because the paper was too thin (and I kept repainting the same area because I was so rusty nothing turned out right), I had to use the hair dryer to dry it out before I continued painting the next layer.

Prepared sketches for other fanpals as well.

This one's for a Yama shipper, redrawn because I thought the first one wasn’t done properly.

Then Ohno's drama was announced! At first they said ryokan, I was excited at the thought that he might be wearing Japanese traditional outfits throughout the whole drama.

Okay so apparently that was not the case. All is well, nonetheless!

Then then then, Ohno’s movie was announced! Samurai versus Ninja you say? I've been longing for a long-haired Ohno for the longest time!

Since the beginning of the year, I started a little project to paint each member for their birthday, in their member colour. Now that it's nearing the end of August, I’ve prepared Jun’s painting too.

Hope I can finish this project properly! Will have to paint Ohno’s in advance though cause I'll be touring Europe for 1.5 months this October-November!
