I know giving the Speaker's gavel to a guy whose name is really "Boner" and whose skin is no natural human shade was a bad idea. Speaker Boehner, in his never ending quest to go back to being Minority Leader Boehner said to reporters today that, "
In the last two years, under President Obama, the federal government has added 200,000 new federal jobs. If some of those jobs are lost so be it. We're broke. This is awesomely stupid on many levels, even for Boehner.
First off, Boehner claims that Obama has added 200,000 government jobs, but he has no evidence to back this up. In fact, through most of the second half of 2010, the government has been shedding jobs. For example, in September of 2010, the private sector added almost a hundred thousand jobs. The government? Dropped 150,000. Secondly, how does the Orange Speaker think we got broke? Tax cuts + job losses = shrinking revenues. And when you add in a couple of trillion dollar wars, you get deficits. Plus, adding or losing those jobs has a ripple effect on the economy as a whole: the more people working and spending money, the more goods and services required, which means more people employed. This is why extending unemployment was so important.
And of course, the topper is that every poll suggests that the entire country (outside people who are economically secure and the 27% Crazificationers) cares about nothing so much as jobs, jobs, jobs. So for the Orange One to talk about how voters have rejected Obama's agenda (which is now pretty much all about jobs) and then say, "Eh, if we lose 200,000 jobs, we lose 'em," is monumentally hypocritical, and pretty damn silly. And that's why John Boehner is Today's Asshat.
