A/N: Alright here we go. Chapter 9. I'm sorry for the delay. I had the chapter written but I absolutely hated it. Then I hit a snag but as you can see I've worked through it. This chapter is dedicated to
livrockluv32 , cuz I love her for still loving me even after I made her scared and nervous for not updating for like two weeks. That last sentence was not grammatically correct in any way but oh well. This is still in Alex's perspective. Thoughts and memories/flashbacks are in Italic while actual dialogue is in bold italic.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Alex Russo or Sonny Munroe because they belong to Disney. Please don't file a lawsuit, Mickey.
She was speaking to her. She called her princess. She still made little quips about her vocabulary.
But no twinkle.
Sighing in frustration, Alex bit into her pickle harshly, relishing the loud crunching that resounded into the air. A droplet of juice dribbled down her chin from the corner of her lip, continuing it's journey as she chewed. Bringing the back of her had towards her face, Alex swiped at her chin harshly, her eyes fixed on the view in front of her.
She gazed out at the water front, her eyes following the small ripples of water carefully. Small waves graced over each other, colliding as they joined in seemless perfection. One on top of the other, they glided as the hit the bottom of the stone ledge, the cool mist grazing dangling legs. Reaching beside her, Alex lightly grasped another pickle from the jar, her gaze intent on the graceful motions of the water before her. A strong gust of wind ripped through the air, leaving a shivering Alex in it's wake. Goosebumps appeared all along her arms, the cold air piercing her uncovered skin like nails hitting flesh.
"I told you I don't want a dying roommate," a raspy voice rang out. Surprised, Alex jumped slightly, the cool pickle escaping from her fingers as she looked back at the voice's owner.
"You dropped something, " Sonny called out, her head nodding towards the water. Looking down, Alex stared, her lips slowly forming a slight pout as she stared at her drowning treat. "I didn't even get to eat a bite of it!" Letting out a sigh of frustration, Alex looked up, thouroughly disgruntled. "A perfectly good pickle! Wasted!"
Finally reaching the stone ledge, Sonny peered over, her eyes slightly narrowed as it watched the pickle disappear into the abyss. "They gave you a jar of pickles?"
Eyes widening, Alex looked up. Frustration turning to nervousness, Alex turned to the right, her eyes watching the still pickle watching Sonny Monroe as she chuckled nervously. "Well they didn't 'give' it to me..."
"So you took it." Satisfied, Alex smirked as she congratulated herself internally. "Yes. I took it."
Finally looking up, Sonny asked, her tone neutral as she squinted at a smirking Alex. "You took a jar of pickles. " Feeling defensive, Alex scoffed as her eyes narrowed at the dark haired girl standing near her. Her back straightening, Alex regarded the girl cooly. "Yeah, I did! What the hell is wrong with that?"
Shaking her head slightly, Sonny lazily shrugged as she answered in a bored tone. "Nothing. Just making sure."
"Fine!"
"Fine."
"Good!"
"Good."
"Awesome!"
"...Are you seriously gonna keep going with that?"
Mouth clamping shut, Alex glared slightly at the girl behind her, the frustration clearly building with each passing second. Her head tilting up slightly, her voice rang out, her tone clipped. "I can if I wanted to. I can keep going for as long as I want! Why? Is that a problem?"
Her body now turned to the waterfront, Sonny glanced at the girl before replying neutrally. "...Again... just asking,"
"Is there a reason why you're trying to annoy me?"
"Nope."
"Fine then. Now if you excuse me, I have to eat these-"
"Why are you trying to kill yourself?" Sonny interrupted, her blank gaze unfaltering as Alex blinked in surprise. Blinking, Alex regained her composure, pushing away the slight shock. "I'm not-"
"You're sitting on a stone ledge. In the cold-"
"How does that mean-"
"Without a jacket," Sonny continued, not at all deterred by Alex's defensive interruption.
Closing her eyes, Alex took a deep frustrated breath before looking back at the stoic girl with piercing eyes. "Maybe, " she said, her tone sugary sweet, "maybe I'm not cold."
"You're freezing."
"I AM NOT-"
Placing her hand over Alex's, Sonny covered it for mere moments as she stared at their hands. "You're freezing," she repeated as she pulled away. Eyes wide, Alex swallowed harshly before talking in a gulp of air. Voice soft and almost inaudible, Alex avoided dark orbs gazing at her. "A little."
"Come on."
She merely continued to stare, her feet dangling as the mist continued to caress her skin. She barely heard Sonny ask her again, her mind and body tingling from the smallest touch she was granted.
"Hey? Pricess? You coming..." Sonny asked, her voice sounding faraway to the young latina. Her heart raced, her ears no longer registering sounds. She only had her sight as she finally met Sonny's gaze. Suddenly her right cheek felt as if it was burning, pools of heat fimly pressed against her skin as she lost her breath yet again. "Alex," Sonny whispered softly, eyes squinting as her left hand was still placed firmly on the other girl's cheek, "are you feeling alright?"
She nodded slowly, lips parting as her dazed eyes traveled over Sonny's face. Staring at the girl's dazed eyes, squinted eyes widened slightly as Alex continue to gaze at her. Her own lips parting, Sonny looked down, her tongue peeking out to swipe at her bottom lip. "Mhmm..." she said to herself before looking up to meet glazed orbs. Nodding quietly, Sonny moved closer, her hand slipping down to Alex's neck/ Her eyes merely centimeters away from Alex's, Sonny let out a breath as she stared into Alex's eyes. "It's time to go, Princess," her voice rasped out, eyes piercing into the orbs in front of her. Letting out a soft sigh, Alex's eyes closed as she let Sonny help her off the ledge, her feet meeting the ground.
She barely noticed Sonny gingerly placing the jar of pickles into her hand nor did she notice a jacket being draped over her shoulders gently. Relishing in the feel of Sonny's hands grasping her own, she let herself be walked back to their room, her jar of pickles cradled against her.
Feeling their walk suddenly end, Alex blinked as she stared in front of her, the dark wood furnishing blocking her path. Suddenly, she felt a warm body come closer to her. "My key," was all Sonny offered, her voice neutral yet quiet, her eyes still focused on Alex's. Reaching into her jacket pocket, she pulled out a key before fixing the leather marterial back into place. Gasping at their close proximity, Alex took a shuddering breath before blinking repeatedly, her skin becoming flushed. Motioning for the girl to enter before her, Sonny stood against the door, her eyes watching the now focused Alex enter the room before shutting the door behind her and leaning against it.
Fidgeting, Alex dared not look back at Sonny, her heart being wildy as her nervousness heightened with each passing second. What the hell was that,Russo? What the... how the hell am I gonna play this now? Damn it, why even try? She knows. OH! MAYBE SHE DOESN'T?!" Eyes widening and a hopeful smile making it's way on her face, Alex whirled around and faced the girl who had yet to move from her position against the door.
Not knowing what to say, Alex nervously smiled at Sonny for a few moments before quickly placing the jar on the table near her. Removing the leather jacket from her shoulders, Alex looked around before gingerly placing it on the arm chair. "Um.. thanks for the jacket...again. I guess I was a bit more than a little cold-"
"You were pretty out of it," Sonny stated as she stared at Alex quietly.
Pausing for only a moment, Alex shrugged. "Yeah...sorry about that."
"You were pretty out of it at gym, too."
"I guess I have a zoning out problem or something," Alex said, a nervous smile finding it's way back on to her face as she turned away to find something to distract herself with.
"Both times you looked pretty flushed too-"
"Is there something you want to point out?" Alex quickly shot out harshly, her hand grabbing the nearest water bottle. Unscrewing the cap, she took a gulp of water. "I was flushed. Big deal."
Her face neutral and voice calm, Sonny regarded Alex. "Just asking why-"
Eyes flashing, Alex slammed the bottle of water back down on the table. "Just ask the real question."
Tilting her head, Sonny continued to stare at the increasingly frustrated girl. Never moving from her position, Sonny continued to trace her eyes over Alex's body. "You seem frustrated."
Pursing her lips, Alex glared before biting back. "Just ask the damn-"
"I already know you're gay."
Swallowing harshly, Alex stared hard at the girl before her.
'Though you could be bi. The other girls seem to think so."
Suddenly confused, Alex felt her defensive stature deflate. "Huh?"
Pushing herself off the door, Sonny began to loosen her tie as she walked slowly to her bed. Running one hand through her hair, she flung her tie onto her covers, her movements slow and lazy. "No offense but it's kinda obvious. It's been obvious since the first day we got to Kylemore."
In shock, Alex slowly made her way down to her bed before sitting down, her eyes wide and lips parted. Looking down, Alex blinked, her mind trying to make sense of Sonny's words. "Is that...is that why everyone ignores me?" Hearing her snort, Alex quickly looked up only jolt back slightly.
Her shirt half unbuttoned, Sonny merely pulled out her iPhone before quickly tossing it on to her bed. "You're not the only gay one here."
"Then why-"
"Cuz you're different."
Shaking her head, Alex got up quickly. "Fine. Now that we've got that covered, I'm gonna head out to the cafeteria." Grabbing her bag, Alex walked across the room, pulling the door quickly. However, the strong grasp on her arm stopped her from walking out. Her face whirling around, Alex gasped as her nose brushed against Sonny's. Lips centimenters from her own, she stared back into dark orbs, her breath lost as she felt calm puffs of air against her skin. "I think," Sonny whispered, eyes dark and acute, "we aren't finished just yet."
Sonny's gaze never faltered from the breathless girl before her. Sonny pulled her arm gently towards her as she gently pushed the creaking door. They stood still in close proximity as the dark slab of wood firmly shut out the inane chatter behind them and leaving only the sounds of the echoing whispers meeting with shuddering gasps.
