It’ s been a day since Sehun was sent in to watch her. A guy who’s in charge for him on the placement bureau said it will take him a few weeks. He sighed when he found out. “Can’t i get anyone else who only have several days left?”

Sehun remembered that guy shrugged. “Sorry bro, it’s an order. You know i can’t do anything.”

“I know.” Sehun squawked. “Thanks anyway.”

“you’re welcome.”

--

So he watched over her, the girl in a white dress and soft blue cardigan. He learned that he name was Sulli. She sat in front of her window for hours with a book in her lap. She let the window opened, which made gentle summer breezes sometimes drifted into her bedroom and turned the book’s page she was reading. She sighed once in awhile when returning the page, but other than that, she remained silent. Sehun found it rather interesting in some uncanny way, how she can let silence occurs whole day, as if silence was the wounded sound of her fragile body.

--

She read another book the second day. He didn’t bother looking at the book’s title. He wouldn’t know anyway. She sat on her bed, eyes glued upon the words. He analyzed her, her porcelain white skin, her sunkissed cheeks, the way sometimes her bangs fell and covered her eyes and how she softly swept it to the let side, and the way she slowly turned the page like an awestruck kid.

She was a delicate, he decided.

--

She went out to the hospital with her mother on his third day. He followed her quietly. He sat beside her as she waited outside the room while her mother talked to the doctor. She didn’t feel his presence- he could be invisible after all.

She was holding a paper, her eyes were looking completely blank. She touched the paper gently, sensed the light woods fiber. Shaking her head furiously, she bit her lips hard, until it bleed and a drop of blood tumbled on the paper. She tried to clean it up but it just make the paper more ruined than it already was. Just like her. Ruined.

As the realization came to her mind, she unwillingly let a tear slipped by, running down her cheek.

Sehun never wanted to wipe someone’s tears so badly until then.
--

She barely went out of her room. It was a fact Sehun realized on his fourth day. She barely spoke, too. He never saw it before on other people, the solitary feeling which shielded her. The loneliness that bubbled up in her. As if she was already prepared to go. As if she was ready. But he knew she wasn’t.

Nobody never is.

--
At the night of his tenth day, a slightly older girl Sehun never saw before came to her room. Sulli, who wasn’t yet to sleep, straightened her body.

“You’re home.” Sulli stated. “I am, freshly arrived.” The older girl paced to her bed.

“I thought you’re not going home until next home. How’s Japan?” Sulli asked.

“Sull. Are you okay?” the older girl ignored the question and asked back.

Much to Sehun’s surprise, Sulli laughed.

“What do you mean by that, i’m okay, look-“before Sulli could continued her words, the older girl cut away, “You don’t have to pretend you’re okay.”

“But i am okay.” Sulli said firmly. “What do you expect, Tiff? That you’re going to find me wail and cry everyday knowing I only have weeks to survive?”

“No, Ssul, I don’t mean it that way, I just-“

“I’m sleepy. I’d better sleep now. You better too, Tiffany, it must have been an exhausting flight you had.”

Tiffany looked at her as she shrugged and grabbed her blanket, signaling Tiffany to go away. She sighed but she obeyed anyway.

Tiffany was about to close the door when she heard Sulli mumbled, “Thank you for asking, Tiff.” Tiffany smiled sadly, and closed the door.

--

That night she cried on her sleep. She cried so painfully, so beautiful it hurted him too. She choked for air, desperate to fill her heavy heart. Her breath was warm and she looked terribly pale while in contrary, her cheeks were red. How she looked gave him shivers down his spine.

How could a person be as miserable as her but in the same time still managed to look helplessly beautiful? Sehun couldn’t quite decipher.

The pain, the agony that wrapped her up. It was strangely beautiful for him - too beautiful. So dire it was alluring, it made him wanted to touch her. A simple, gentle touch wouldn’t hurt her, he decided.

Ignoring the rules, he approached her and carefully stroking her burning cheeks. Her warmth slowly seeped into his ice cold hands.

They say angels cannot feel anything, but frankly, that night, he found peace.

--

From that night on, it was like his new habit to sat beside her and slightly touched her cheeks or wiped her tears. It was a thing he couldn’t bear to resist. He knew what he did is against the rules, but he only adored her, he insisted.

It wasn’t like he fell in love with her or anything.

--

She got worse each day, Sehun perceived. Even human could see with bare eyes. Sulli’s family has decided it was the best for her just to stay home and did whatever she wanted. Sometimes her sister, tiffany, accompanied her in her room, talked or played with her hair. Her mother bought Sulli dozens of new books and cooked her favorite meals. Her father sometimes went home early and watched his favorite movies with her, and at times her father sang her to sleep.

Her family tried the best to make her happy and Sulli knew. So she managed to smile everyday, to assured them she was doing alright. But however hard she tried to be okay, all Sehun could see in her eyes were hollow and jaded black endless pool.

--

She was supposed to die in the afternoon, so in his sixteenth night watching over her, he sat a little longer than usual. He sat perfectly still beside her until dawn, looking at her peaceful sleeping face. He felt a pang in his chest knowing this would be the last time he watched her sleeping and the last time he could feel her warmth.

So instead of caressing her cheeks like he always did, he hugged her, just for this one time, because it was the only thing which made sense in the least sensible way.

It was his last time to be with her, so one last hug and everything would be over. The end.

But it didn’t turned up that way, because when he released his hug, she was wide awake.

--

“Who are you?”

It surpised him that her question didn’t sound indicted or accusing. She was purely curious, he could see that from her.

She asked so innocently so he smiled. “It’s a secret.”

“Let me guess,” she said. “You have wings,so you must be an angel.” She paused for a bit, tilting her head in confusion.

“Are you my guardian angel or something like that?”

“Something like that.”

She laughed heartily at his retort. It was the first time she actually laughed sincerely since he came.

“What’s your name?”

“Sehun.” He decided to tell her his real name, after all she will die in hours, he remarked bitterly.

“I’m Sulli,”

“I know.”

--

He spent that morning with her. She looked more lively than he ever remembered. She cheerfully showed him her collection of books. She blubbered random, incoherent topics and she stared dreamily at him as he talked.

He looked at her who was gazing at summer’s cloud. She looked at him, giggled softly as she playfully smacked his shoulder saying ‘eeeh what’s with that look!’ and in a sudden, a realization popped up in his mind, hitting him hard with facts he wasn’t aware of earlier.

He loved her smile, the way her eyes sparked when she talked about her favorite stuffs, he loved this dying girl who stayed strong until the very end although each day she went weaker and weaker, this girl who pretended to be okay but cried when night came, and most of all, he loved her warmth that transcended to him.

He loved her, whether it was wrong or right, he loved her till bits.

--

It was noon.

He couldn’t stop counting down the hours, even though each minute closer to afternoon made him realize he never wanted to let go of her. But what he could do anyway, he was a mere angel, and she was only human. They both couldn't escape from fate.

Life is unfair, he thought.

--

“Sehun,” she hummed.

“hmm.”

“I was just wondering, why are you here.” She stopped suddenly, hesitating. “I mean, why now? You could popped out anytime in the year but you choose today.”

“I can’t tell you.” He quickly answered, avoiding her piercing stares.

“I’m going to die aren’t i?”

Sehun kept his mouth shut.

“I guess it’s a yes then.” She smiled wryly, and then droplets of water started to fall from her eyes.

“I have lived a happy life,” she stated rigidly eventhough tears kept streaming down her sunkissed cheeks, “If there are things I will regret, that will be you who didn’t appear faster.” She smiled at him in between her tears.

“I know i just met you today but i like you, Sehun. It feels like we know eachother for a months, years even. I never feel this comfortable around anyone else. I hate the fact i’ll die today because i wont meet you anymore. “

He pulled her into a tight hug. She cried in his embrace, wettening his clothes but he could care less.

“I like you too, Sulli.” He finally said. “More than you know. Since the day i saw you, i know you are something for me.” He buried his face in her neck, surrounding himself with the scent of her hair.

“But i thought angels are heartless.” She muttered, her teary eyes met his sharp eyes.

“Not since i met you.”

--

“It’s time.” He said while looking at the clock in her room.

“Ah.” She nodded. Trace of tears were still clear on her face, but she smiled.

“Goodbye, Sehun. Thank you for today.”
And with that, he took her soul.

--

The news of him being in love with a human being escalated quickly. The superior angels told him he should be punished for his careless and ignorant behaviour. They took his wings for five years and they didn’t allow him to step his foot on earth for a while. And they told him to teach new angels on how to behave (oh the irony, he thought). But he didn’t complain for even once. He took all the consequences because he never regretted loving her. Until today.

He was just thinking about her when someone taps his shoulder lightly.

“You look different without wings.” That person says.

He freezes for a moment. That voice sounds familiar. Too familiar it sounds surreal for him.

He turned his back slowly to find the owner of red cheeks and porcelain skin is now standing in front of him, looking perfectly the same as she was years ago. Smiling, her eyes sparkling in excitement as she speaks,

“Sehun, long time no see.”
