Written for primeval100 challenge 333: Past Prompts (Challenge 39: Helen). And with a slightly cheeky nod to the number of this week's challenge.

Helen stood on top of the rocky promontory, surveying the dusty valleys laid out beneath her. In her mind, she superimposed the landscape as it had been in 1975, noting the differences and the similarities, marking the obvious reference points.

Here in the Pliocene there was a stream meandering through, and splashes of green along its edges. In her own time, there had been only rock and dust.

Even so, Helen knew she had the right place. Here, now, it was a sheltered watering hole. In three million years it would be the dig site that palaeontologists called Site 333.
