Connor had been quietly panicking all the way to Yorkshire. Becker thought he was being silly, especially when Connor’s grandmother greeted him with an enthusiastic hug.
“Gran, this is Becker.”
While Connor babbled, Becker smiled politely, and tried not to loom over the little lady.
“Becker is my... um...”
Becker was sure he saw a flash of amusement in her eyes as she watched Connor squirm. Eventually she patted his arm and gave them a knowing look.
“Connor, dear, I think the word you’re looking for is ‘boyfriend’.”
Becker knew right then that he was going to like Grandma Temple.
