Connor was panicking when Stephen found him.
“I’ve lost my essay. This is what I get for finishing it early and handing it in before the deadline!”
Stephen rolled his eyes.
“Okay, where did you last have it?”
“I gave it to Cutter.”
“Where?”
“In here!”
Stephen looked around at Cutter’s office. At the stacks of books and journals in precarious piles that seemed to defy the laws of gravity. At the miscellaneous sheets of paper that had been accumulating on every surface for so long they could probably be carbon dated.
He patted Connor’s shoulder.
“Sorry mate. It’s lost.”
