well, i found her. the adoption disclosure register here in ontario contacted me yesterday morning. they are going to send me all the information they are legally able to release to me in a letter - so when i get it, i'll try and post again.
things i DO know:
my mother passed away 9 years ago from hodgkins lyphoma at the age of 36 in thunder bay ontario. she is burried in manitoba. this made me cry when i first heard it - it means i'll never get to sit face to face with her and ask her my questions...
she was petite - 5'1", dark hair and hazel eyes (exactly like me).
she was ukranian decent and spoke english as a second language. she loved reading and was a dancer.
her name was laurie ann.
(they are going to send me her full maiden name and her legal married name as well, along with her last permanent address in thunder bay, and the address of the cemetary she's burried in)
in her disclosure, she put a little information about my father, which means that i might do a search for him, as when there is father information listed, it usually indicates that the father is an active participant.
he was 5'6" (short!), black hair with light grey eyes. he was french canadian and an outdoorsman. loved hiking, camping, and hunting.
24 hours ago i knew nothing about who i was, who my parents were, or where i came from. now i know why i have dark skin, and where my love for the outdoors comes from. at least, i'd like to think so...i'm hoping to drive up to manitoba this summer with two girl friends to maybe find her grave and my grandparents - it was indicated to me that she was burried there because her parents were there.
that's all i have so far. it's been overwhelming.
