Happy Halloween, everyone!
I have now written 100 drabbles for Supernatural. A hundred! 10,000 words - exactly - about how I imagine the life and times of the Winchester family, and the people, places and things they've encountered.
I've written
episode tags and
crossovers,
tales of childhood,
romance and
the apocalyspe,
dialog-only and
monster point-of-view. I told stories that were
deadly serious,
cuddly cute,
full of angst, and
just plain silly. I tried to make
chickens and
a Christmas tree as menacing as possible and
used a bad pun as a monster. I
experimented with quoting Shakespeare and wrote
from the perspective of a plastic army man. I wrote
stories that didn’t even impress me, and discovered that Supernatural fans love
a certain ghost-hunting dog.
I've liberally sprinkled my drabbles with cultural references:
King Arthur,
Stephen King (
more than once),
The Twilight Zone,
Where the Wild Things Are,
Men in Black,
a jump rope chant,
Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
He-Man,
Greek mythology,
Care Bears,
H.P. Lovecraft,
the Billy goats Gruff,
Brigadoon,
Bugs Bunny,
the Saw movies,
Fringe and
the Morton salt girl. To name only a few.
And scattered in with all of these, I created
ordinary hunts like those you might see on an average Thursday night.
They're not all great, I admit that, but I've been having fun writing these drabbles, 100 words at a time. So thanks for reading them!
