Usually, when April comes to the Nexus she has a smile that is almost as bright as the sign. However today is different. The young woman is obviously upset, as she sits on a couch and shuffles her feet against the floor

"Stopping to wonder that is unproductive. You simply have to look for other ways to meet the challenges." It's stern advice, from an old man with a harsh, angular face that matches the hard words. He is clad all black, including a wide-brimmed hat that does not quite conceal silver hair. Despite his age, he looks like the sort of man who rises to challenges.
"You'll be less effective if you spend all your time worrying about it." He pauses, and one gnarled hand makes an absent rippling of fingers, spinning a heavy ring loosely on one finger. It holds a large fire-opal that glints in the light. It's a thinking gesture, an unconscious habit, and when his hand stills again he speaks more gently. "It would be foolish to believe that we can live without affecting others. As long as you've tried to do good life, the chances are high that you have succeeded in some way."
"That is true." April runs a hand through her hair. Her thinking gesture.
"I know there are people who are glad to have me in their lives. And I have tried to help when I can. It just... It is foolish to think I could help everyone, but is still hard to think of those failed attempts when they happen."
"I helped overthrow a powerful alien regime and freed millions of slaves. I gave up my life and my body to save complete strangers." He smiles slightly. "More recently, I took in a friend who would have otherwise died."
Cole smiles sympathetically. "I have days where I can think about sometimes is how many bad things there are in the world. But that's not really an accurate picture, I don't think. As much badness there is... there's goodness, too. And sorry if I sound really cheesy, or anything." He honestly believes it!
"Me, personally?" He goes out and fights crime. "I try to look after the people around me. I take care of people - I live with my brother and my girlfriend, and most days I feel like the parent - and when someone asks me for money on the street, I try to bring them to one of the shelters in our city. You know, so they can get fed and warm and helped to find jobs."
"Good," he says with a wider smile. "And yeah, I guess I am. I'm in pre-med right now and might be a nurse or something some day. It's just what I do. What people are supposed to do. We're supposed to take care of each other."
"I made a difference just by coming into their lives. My Aunt May and Uncle Ben never had children of their own, so when they took me in, it was a big difference."
