Usually, when April comes to the Nexus she has a smile that is almost as bright as the sign. However today is different. The young woman is obviously upset, as she sits on a couch and shuffles her feet against the floor

Cole smiles sympathetically. "I have days where I can think about sometimes is how many bad things there are in the world. But that's not really an accurate picture, I don't think. As much badness there is... there's goodness, too. And sorry if I sound really cheesy, or anything." He honestly believes it!
"Me, personally?" He goes out and fights crime. "I try to look after the people around me. I take care of people - I live with my brother and my girlfriend, and most days I feel like the parent - and when someone asks me for money on the street, I try to bring them to one of the shelters in our city. You know, so they can get fed and warm and helped to find jobs."
"Good," he says with a wider smile. "And yeah, I guess I am. I'm in pre-med right now and might be a nurse or something some day. It's just what I do. What people are supposed to do. We're supposed to take care of each other."
"No, of course not. But those of us who do, we can make a difference, and we do make a difference. I like to think the world's a little better because I was there." He tilts his head in her direction. "What about you?"
"I have been working to make a difference. And normally I am confident in the bigger picture... but a recent situation just made me think about those things I could not change."
"I hear you." His smile gets a little sad. "I'm.. kinda in the same boat, but you've got to stay positive. I know that sounds stupid, but if you let the bad stuff, the stuff you can't change, drag you down.. it gets harder to focus on what you can change, and the difference you can make."
"Am I that obvious?" he asks with a soft chuckle. "Yeah, she's... she's better now, but I wasn't there to protect her. And we're both dealing with the fact that there are things we just can't do. I dunno, maybe Superman can do everything, but last time I checked I wasn't him."
"Nah, s'why he's got the Justice League." Cole hasn't met any of the superheroes yet other than in the comics, so expect a full-fledged geek-out before too long.
"We were. We're trying to move on and make things better.." A shaky sigh. "She's okay, and that's the important thing."
