There are large suits of armor in the Nexus.

They are not giant mecha, but they are pretty big (ranging from 8 feet to 9 feet tall), and they are not SPARTANs. They move in packs of five or so, occasionally leaping via jets of flame released from their legs, but mostly walking or running. And they appear to be fairly heavily armed. None of them ( Read more... )

"I would rather die than betray my country in any way, if that's what you mean. 'Respectability' by many standards is less of a concern."

"Personal honor, then; not the honor of your Clan." Clearly they aren't as Nexus-adjusted as some other people from their universe. Only one of them is talking, but they're all looking at Luc, and... well, they're pretty big. And heavily armed.

"Would you dishonorably slay someone in order to keep yourself from dying?" Perhaps this is meant to clarify.

"What's dishonorable about self-defense?" His hand rests casually on the hilt of the Special Knife.

"The stain that dishonor leaves on yourself, your family, and your Clan." Apparently these guys take honor very seriously - there's not even a trace of joking in the one speaking.

"My life. I think I'd be able to regain my honor as long as I survive." She watches them thoughtfully, as she's perched on top of a Convenient Crumbling Wall, wings half-spread for balance.

"You think dishonor is something easily washed away?" Okay, those are wings. Those do not belong on people. Yes, they've been briefed on what to expect, but still. The body language of the squad suggests caution and heightened alarm, which means that their guns are ready to fire on her just in case.

Hopefully they're not twitchy.

Wings or no, the body language isn't offensive or defensive, even if she's watching them move--it might be out of curiosity more than anything else. There's a good fair chance it might not be either. Said wings are massive, apparently made to support her body weight in the air--and that's to say nothing about her cybernetics, the arms, among other things.

And to her? They look twitchy. She shrugs, "I don't really know." She says, "I always thought it was one of those situational things that could vary."

Unknown to them, however, she's called up her PINpoint information in her HUD, ready to vanish should they get any twitchier. Those weapons make her vaguely nervous, AVF or not.

"That says something about your nature." Oh, they've already seen the cybernetics, and the cybernetics are a Not Good Thing, because the kind of people who do that are the kind of people who are religious fanatics for a society that controls quite a bit of the universe's communications systems and like to do things like "drop nuclear weapons on planets and completely glass them".

The Word of Blake are a bunch of right bastards, but that's neither here nor there; what does matter is that they like cybernetics, and so does Ara.

"And what it says is not good." No, they're not firing, but they clearly do not approve of her.

Metody stands there watching them with a smile for a while. The Nexus has such cool things inside of it. Flying robots! How much cooler can you g-

He jumps about a foot when one actually addresses him. He hesitates a moment, considering.

"...how do you define 'honor'? Because there's a lot of different ways to define it, and that makes a difference to the question."

"What is your definition of honor, then." They are all staring at you now, Metody, and they are all very big compared to you.

Yes. Gosh. They are big. Do they have bones in them? He wants them to have bones inside.

"We don't quite - " He's not going to tell them that his people don't have honor. They kind of do. " - it's not usually put in those terms. It's more...right or wrong. Do you do the right thing?"

They do have bones. Really big bones, actually - they're a good seven or eight feet tall outside the armor. (Not that this is obvious.)

"Define 'right', then. What do you consider to be right?"

Simmons, on the other hand, is a SPARTAN. And it's not everyday in the Nexus that he comes across somebody taller and more armored (and armed) than he is. He gives them a professional nod, but he's frowning under that helmet of his. Apparently, while SPARTANs are as normal as the day is long as far as Simmons is concerned, anything more than that is Weird and Suspicious.

And if we're being honest here, he's also frowning because honor is one of those abstract concepts that he's not too good at. (Burying your commanding officer/faux father figure alive in order to cement your own promotion is perfectly reasonable behavior!)

"Personally," Simmons decides these guys probably don't outrank him, and, as such, don't merit the 'sirs' he might've put in this spot otherwise, although his tone remains terse and polite, "I find my survival to be the higher priority of the two."

"You would rather live dishonorably than die with honor?" The tone from the speaker is carefully neutral. Honestly, he's frowning, but the suit of armor makes that pretty much impossible to tell.

"Honor can be regained eventually and gone without in the meantime. You can't come back from being dead." Simmons pauses. He knows a couple of exceptions to that rule. "Normally."

"Dishonor is a stain that stays on you, whether you choose to believe that or not." They don't sound too pleased with his responses.

The flying man wearing jeans and a Metropolis Sharks hoodie blinks at the armored men. Theres only one 'armored' guy he knows that doesnt end up causing problems, ok he does cause problems, but hes a cop.

"I dont have any real concern for 'honor'. Kinda useless."

lithekill September 14 2008, 20:17:55 UTC
"Really. And why is that?" Judging from their posture now - a bit more guarded, a bit more... well, okay, they look more likely to fire now than they did a few seconds ago.

"Do you really think honor has no place in life?"

"There are plenty of people that use it in ways that work out in the end. But I never had any use for it. I help people." He shrugs. He doesnt change his posture. AV field and the fact hes the Goddamn Superman are two very important reasons.
