There are large suits of armor in the Nexus.

They are not giant mecha, but they are pretty big (ranging from 8 feet to 9 feet tall), and they are not SPARTANs. They move in packs of five or so, occasionally leaping via jets of flame released from their legs, but mostly walking or running. And they appear to be fairly heavily armed. None of them ( Read more... )

Simmons, on the other hand, is a SPARTAN. And it's not everyday in the Nexus that he comes across somebody taller and more armored (and armed) than he is. He gives them a professional nod, but he's frowning under that helmet of his. Apparently, while SPARTANs are as normal as the day is long as far as Simmons is concerned, anything more than that is Weird and Suspicious.

And if we're being honest here, he's also frowning because honor is one of those abstract concepts that he's not too good at. (Burying your commanding officer/faux father figure alive in order to cement your own promotion is perfectly reasonable behavior!)

"Personally," Simmons decides these guys probably don't outrank him, and, as such, don't merit the 'sirs' he might've put in this spot otherwise, although his tone remains terse and polite, "I find my survival to be the higher priority of the two."

"You would rather live dishonorably than die with honor?" The tone from the speaker is carefully neutral. Honestly, he's frowning, but the suit of armor makes that pretty much impossible to tell.

"Honor can be regained eventually and gone without in the meantime. You can't come back from being dead." Simmons pauses. He knows a couple of exceptions to that rule. "Normally."

"Dishonor is a stain that stays on you, whether you choose to believe that or not." They don't sound too pleased with his responses.

"There are more important things to deal with."

Their guns are raised a little bit. Clearly Simmons is not someone who should be trusted. "I see," the lead one says, his tone indicating that that is the incorrect response.

Simmons notices those guns move. (He also is, in fact, not a particularly trustworthy person, but that's neither here nor there.) "I'm sure you do." A pause. "Asshole." And then he PINs away!
