A viper pilot (who is beginning to wonder if she can even call herself such any more; two months is an eternity when it comes to the kind of reflexes flying as well as she does requires) walks into the Nexus, carrying an odd sword (one of these, in fact), which she toys with experimentally as she speaks ( Read more... )

"I'm more practiced with knives, but I could help you with a few basic methods, at least," Ez offers with a grin.

"Anywhere's a start," Kara replies with a grin of her own. She likes this guy already after last night's brief conversation. That'll happen when one offers Kara a gun in lieu of hello.

He nods. "What I know's pretty style-less - a little of this, a little of that, and the whole point is to kill the other person as fast as possible, not to be 'honorable' or anything." His expression suggests that he doesn't think Kara will find this a problem.

"Sounds perfect," Kara replies, amused. "I'm a big fan of whatever works."

Honestly, you should see her fly.

Viper pilot, meet severely canonfucked Sailor Senshi. Or, in this case, a tiny, blue-haired girl who's obviously still high school-aged, even if the way she looks at Kara tells quite a different story - that's the sort of look you only get when you've survived more hell than a human being's meant to survive and you're never entirely sure why. She's just dressed in casual clothes today, which in this case means an orange vest over a white shirt and dark blue pants, and she gives the sword a quick, careful once-over. "A new hobby, huh?" She taps her hand against her side, for a moment. "I've never trained anyone in how to use a sword before . . . but I might have to, someday, so I could try?"

Kara looks the girl over with only the tiniest hint of skepticism; she knows that look too well not to recognize it in another. Besides, she'd started teaching people to fly when she wasn't long out of high school, herself. Age didn't reflect talent.

"Yeah, don't ask what my old one was," Kara replies, re: hobbies. Seriously, don't ask. "I'm a shitty student but a quick study, if that's any reassurance."

In Ami's case, age really was no reflection on talent - or suicidal resolve, but who keeps track of that particular characteristic, anyway?

You know, based on the tone of Kara's voice, Ami decides she really doesn't want to know. Really. She knows that expression, too. "That's fine. I'm not a very good teacher, but I get the job done when I have to." She smiles, a little self-deprecatingly. "But then, you can do a lot of things when you have to."

"Don't I know it," Kara replies, with a small sigh. "I was a teacher, once. I'm not about to criticize anyone else who tries."

Well, not to their face, anyway. But Kara carries a lot of guilt for having gotten one of her students killed, so no, she probably won't criticize either way.

Kara met Ether before, but there's a distinct feeling like she met a different one. This one is not only several inches taller and dressed better, with the dumb combination of a bodysuit and a trench coat replaced by what looks like a rather coherent black-and-white uniform, he also has a weapon on his person.

Said weapon is a two-handed sword, about six feet long and two feet wide, with a large cross engraved into a surface. It looks like it weighs a ton, which only makes it harder to accept the fact that Ether is casually dragging it along the ground with one hand.

"I know a thing or two about swordplay," He comments blankly as he raises his hand and cups his chin. "Granted, I don't usually train people in it."

"Why not?" Kara asks, eyeing the sword he's carrying as though perhaps that's why not; it looks pretty frakking unwieldy.

Kara's not even going to try to work out whether or not this is the Ether she's met before; alternates make her head ache.

"Don't have the time. My schedule is erratic beyond belief. I never have any idea how things will go tomorrow." His index finger rises further and brushes his nose once, before he finally lowers his hand and shrugs.

"I think I could find the time for a session or two these days, though."

Kara understands that much, at least.

"I'm from a world where I never know if I'm going to be alive come tomorrow; trust me when I say I can be a fast learner."

And anyway, she's got enough volunteers to choose from that even if she only gets one lesson from each of them, it'll give her an idea of what works and where to go next.

"That depends on who you ask," Kara replies, with a wry grin.

"I think most of my teachers would've loved to fail me for attitude problems, if only I hadn't been their best student in other areas."

"That's an interesting sword," Alec says, looking at it curiously. "What's it made of?" He's got a longsword on his back and looks like he knows how to use them. "And you really shouldn't hold it like that."

"Not one clue," Kara replies, with a shrug. "I got it last night when I helped kill some kind of demon... monster... thing who tried to take my arm off with it." She's got a bandage covering a cut on her shoulder to show for it; thank the Gods for quick reflexes.

"How else should I hold it?" Kara replies, quizzically. She's holding it by the right end and figures you stick the pointy end in things; the rest is all just details!

"Good way to get a weapon, so the stories say." He pulls out his own sword and shows her how he's holding it, "See, like this, you have keep it balanced in your hand, other wise you might strain something or hurt yourself, and this way you can switch to two hands easily, which gives you more force when you swing."

"Yeah, so they say," Kara replies, a bit thoughtfully. She'd recovered a weapon of legend from her own world, and it had turned out to be more significant than she'd ever dreamed possible, though not as a weapon in and of itself.

She adjusts her grip on the sword as demonstrated, and nods.

"Hm, yeah, not bad. Thanks for the tip."
