Name of Series: Supernatural
Name of Character: John Winchester
Warnings: Spoiler warnings from episode 1 to the finale of season 3. You be warned. Also, I don't like John, but this isn't neccessarily character-bashing, just strongly worded disapproval of his actions.
Summary: I realize why John had to do it for plot purposes, but being the staunch Winchester boys adorer that I am, I feel I should berate the man who hurt them.
Dear John,
While I am sure you are busy slowly having your humanity consumed in Hell for your stupid and hopelessly noble gesture of giving up your life for your older son, I would like a word sir. You see, I have a few qualms with your style of parenting and thought we could chat about it.
For one, sir, you should have sought psychiatric counseling when your wife died. Yes, I get that it was a painful, traumatizing experience for you. I understand that the love of your eternal soul was just brutally murdered and your house was burned down and you nearly lost both of your boys as well. But realize as well, sir, that in your following actions you not only endangered those boys countless times, you insulted the memory of their mother by doing so. I'm sure that Mary Winchester would have not approved of you carting her boys all over creation just to hunt down what goes bump in the night. Hunters do not usually have kids for this reason.
While their childhood was laughable at best and hellish more accurately, it really isn't the conditions that make me want to scream at you, but the manner in which you raised them. Now I realize Dean can be a bit one-track, but I think you did that. Do you realize how much you have fucked that boy up? He is a mindless soldier only thinking of three things: how to get laid, how to hunt things, and how to take care of his brother. You should be proud: you did it to him.
As was evidenced in an episode of season 3, Dean has major daddy issues, and he's the one who's hid his rather than opening up and sharing with the world at large with them. He is so emotionally scarred and stunted that he will never have a healthy relationship with anyone. Oh, and when Sam died? Dean's only response was to immediately give his life up for Sam's. As if Sam's were worth so much more than his. He thinks absolutely nothing of himself and that, sir, is all your fault.
As for Sam. Well at least he has the slightly more healthy route of blow up, yell some, talk, then never talk about it again like it's gone away. He still has father issues. He never really forgave you, sir, even after you died. He hates you for never thinking he was good enough. He hates you more for what you did to his brother. You succeeded in one thing, though. You created a bond in those boys that is so strong no one could ever break it.
Including death.
I hope you're proud, you jackass.
All my regards,
