What The Old Bowls Could Have Brought Us
Now the actual BCS games this year were not bad except for the Sugar BCS Championship Game. But Jan 1st was great. Here is the argument to restore January 1st or at least play all of these bowls first across a couple of day and then have the polls and computers determine #1 vs #2.
These matchups are fudged for conferences and tie ins that don't exist anymore. The actual scenario could be even better if all the Bowls made a treaty concerning that at-large opponent.
Cotton Bowl Classic. Baylor vs Alabama SWC vs atlarge
Orange Bowl: Oklahoma St. vs Clemson [Big8/BigEast/ACC all had tie ins at different times]
Sugah Bowl: LSU vs Boise St SEC vs atlarge
Fiesta Bowl: West Virginia vs Stanford [Big12 or two independents]
Rose Bowl: Oregon PAC vs Wisconsin Bug10 [same]
Now this produces some awesome combos for the +1 BCSCG a week later.
