Courting Some Appeal

Jan 13, 2012 13:04

After a hectic first week I have an externship [I pay to volunteer] interview in two hours at the Arizona Court of Appeals.  I am priviliged to have this opportunity that likely came about when their current extern got a better gig, as they sent out a "Vacancy, Apply Right Away Please" type email on Wednesday.

It's important to me because it's the type of thing that I am not allowed to have.  It's a resume gold star, it's a name that you drop at cocktail parties for the sake of pluming your . . . feathers?  It's the thing that the kids who dress pretty, study hard to regurgitate canned legal jargon, and get good grades and good jobs, get.   Suffice to say it's not my rank, I applied for over 50 of these and this will be the first judge that is willing to talk to me.

So I hope I can not stammer or screw up this interview and win the right to volunteer 180 hours.  Me strutting among the "Hey look at me, I'm an A type personality" crowd would be the perfect ironic conclusion to law school.
