I think I mentioned before that at work they have unlimited free bread, PB, jelly, butter and toasters. Yesterday I forgot my wallet at home and I was eating the freebies for my lunch.

I'd grown tired of ketchup-mustard-mayo sandwiches, so I wanted something else.

I felt like some toast and jelly, but without butter or PB on it, it tastes like eating cold snot on a dry sandpaper. And I refuse to use butter/PB cause theyre busting with fat & calories. So toast and jelly had lost it's appeal too.

I tried something different on a whim. They also have Saltine crackers there, so I put some of the jelly on one of those. And...it was good! Way better than jelly on dry bread or toast. I went back and made more jelly-crackers. All delectable.

But why? It hit me then in a moment of clarity... the salt. Somehow a touch of salt on fruit jelly makes a flavor explosion.

Experiment #2. Made dry toast, put on strawberry jelly. Added a small dash of salt. Delicious! I think I found a new snack.
