They had always been risk-takers, all five of them. From abandoning their comfort zone to live under the same roof with four strangers, to their first time setting afoot on stage, nerves and anxiety threatening to ruin the synchronicity of dance steps and the harmony of five voices, to starting from scratch in a foreign land learning foreign vowels, they were all masters in the art of high-stakes betting. They gambled not with dice and cards, but with their hopes and dreams, exchanging their youth and freedom for the seas of red and screams of thousands.
Especially Jaejoong. Afterall, he was the one who ran away from home making feasts out of cup noodles in order to reach for the stars, to chase his dreams. He was the one who turned probabilities into possibilities into certainties. ‘You risk nothing, you gain nothing’ they say.
And so he tells himself that this is just another gamble, ignoring the butterflies assaulting his stomach, his heart ready to leap out of his chest. An expert poker player knows his chances of a royal flush is less than 1%, but he doesn’t know what his odds are this time. He doesn’t bother to calculate; he was never good at math, never knew how to interpret numbers. All he knows, as he loops his arms around his leader’s neck and places a kiss on cupid bow lips, is that this time, he’s putting his biggest bet on the table and gambling with his heart.
