I finished season three of The Dragon Prince last night and what a fantastic season it was. Ezran becomes king, which only lasts for what? A day or two? A kingdom ruled through a child's eyes just doesn't quite work. Peace is not so simple. But then they decided to free Viren instead of having someone like Corvus take his place? Just, why? Obviously that triggered the series of events which led to the final battle.
Meanwhile, Rayla, Callum and Zym are heading towards Xadia to return Zym to his home. They encounter Nyx who tries to take Zym for personal gain. She eventually helps though and she's a fun character. I wonder if she'll return.
The Sunfire elves were quite foolish. How easy it was for Viren and Aaravos to just take their power and turn their army into fire monsters. And let me talk about Soren, and then Claudia. Wow, the arc for Soren was just amazing. No longer is he the dumb oaf, but now a man who chooses to do the right thing even if it means he has to kill his father. Oh, wait. Whoops. That illusion totally shocked me. I didn't see it coming, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Claudia on the other hand seems to have fully embraced the dark side. She also believes she's doing the right thing, which actually scares me even more than Viren or Aaravos do. I don't see her turning away from that in all honesty. I think I mentioned when I talked about season two, how much she made me feel uncomfortable. I wonder how much more broken she can get. If she continues to look innocent while doing horrible stuff, it will continue to make me feel unsettled. However, if she goes full pitch black and power hungry like her dad, then she will be more like a typical villain. I'm not sure which version of Claudia I prefer, but her character development is both interesting and frightening.
The final battle had me worried and on the edge of my seat, but the girl boss queen came in and saved the day. That was great. As a child king, Ezran could probably learn something from her. The Callum/Rayla ship has sailed and I love it. Seems like there's also going to be a cute relationship between Amaya and that other Sunfire elf I don't know the name of. I like those elves though. They're cool. The dragons, the elves, and the humans are all coming together. I had a feeling this season was going to end with Zym's mother waking up. I half expected her to wake up in some kind of rage, but it's good that she didn't. Then we have the final scene where we see that Claudia brought her dad back to life with dark magic because of course she did. And the Aaravos caterpillar thing is in a cocoon. What will he transform into? I don't know. Did he actually get some of Zym's power? The puppy dragon must continue to be protected at all costs!
We know so little about Aaravos and I have a feeling we'll get to learn more about him in the next season. I also think Aaravos will discard Viren by the end of it. There's no way Viren isn't just a puppet for his unknown agenda. That is my prediction anyway. And... that might be the only way Claudia turns around. If she truly sees what's going on. The way she talked about the caterpillar, it sounds like she doesn't like it.
Of course watching season four won't be any time soon. I'll be back to watching Doctor Who reviews and reactions again. This show is so so good though. I now know there are seven seasons planned. I think season six recently came out. I'm expecting season seven will be out before I get around to it. If that will be the last season, that kind of works out for me because then I won't be waiting around for it to drop.
