We went to Disneyland yesterday, but it was really a bust. It was super crowded, but that was just one of several things that didn't go our way. I had heard that states like Utah and Arizona had fall break at the time, so I knew it could be busy, but I wasn't expecting the problems that occurred. We probably should have gone later in the month, even if that meant we had to start at DCA. We had left later than last time too, so it was a bit of a longer wait in the parking structure and for the tram. We weren't in the park until after ten. Unfortunately, we only did one ride, but I didn't have rides in my plans except for Rise, unofficially. Otherwise, I did pretty much do what was on my list.
I decided to check the tip board before we got into the park to see if Rise was up and running. It was down last time we wanted to ride, and it was down this time too. I checked again when we entered the park and it was still down. But I did want to show my mom some stuff in Critter Country. The walls were down at Tiana's Bayou Adventure, so you could see the queue. They could have made a standard boring queue, but they didn't. They decided to go all out and made a wooden fence queue and it looks really nice. There was also a little box that displayed vegetables and some nice looking murals. I really like what they've done with the queue. Still not going to ride it though.
Since we couldn't do Rise, I suggested we take the raft to Tom Sawyer's Island. The reason I wanted to go there was because I had seen on Fresh Baked how he's kept calling out this stagnant bilge water that's been sitting there for a long time, and so I wanted to see that in person. Half the time when I'm visiting Disneyland, it's investigating things I've seen on Fresh Baked videos lol. There was an actual line for the raft, so it was a bit of a wait. Also we got rained on. A light rain, but still. I wasn't expecting it to rain, but at least I had a jacket with a hood. The rain pretty much stopped by the time we got on the island. I wasn't exactly sure where the bilge water was, but I found it pretty easily. It is pretty gross, and as my mom said, a mosquito magnet. We walked around the island a little more. It really is a nice area to get away. We then left to go get an early lunch, where I tested another Fresh Baked claim.
He had said the best actual pizza in the park was the flatbread pizza at the Red Rose Tavern. My mom and I split the cheese, and while I do think it was a good pizza, I still think the actual best pizza is the flop over at Toontown. While I was there, I checked Rise on the tip board again. It was still down. It had been down for several hours now. Something really must have gone wrong for it to be down that long. With that, we decided to cross over to DCA because there was something I wanted to see that started at 1:20.
So, what I wanted to see was this short show called Storytime with Deadpool. I didn't think I was going to be able to see it because they were running the show when Deadpool and Wolverine released, but it seems they have decided to extend the show's run. So, I was happy I would actually get to see it in person. I did watch the video Fresh Baked had posted though of one of the performances. We did have nearly an hour to kill, so I thought we'd go to Cars Land and go on Luigi's. Unfortunately, that was down too. At this point I started feeling really grumpy. Were we going to be able to ride anything today? It only occurred to me after the fact, that the reason it was closed was probably because it had rained and the track was probably wet. Maybe that's why Rise was down too because part of that ride is outside at the end. We just stood in the middle of the path. I didn't know what to do. There might not have been enough time to ride Radiator Springs Racers and I didn't really feel like it anyway.
We wound up walking to the Hollywood Backlot area. Maybe we could get a buddy pass for Monster's Inc. We did and headed for that line and saw it was pretty long. We probably wouldn't have had time for that either, so we gave our buddy pass back. You know it's packed when even the buddy pass line is long. The grumpy factor increased. Then we found ourselves just sitting on a bench. I moped and did some surveys on my phone. Might as well earn some money... I also looked at the Halloween foodie guide again. I was planning on getting dessert at Jolly Holiday. I saw this caramel apple cheesecake that looked good, but I changed my mind. Maybe I ought to get that Peanut Butter Cold Brew again to improve my mood. That would be later. We went across the street to look in a couple shops before heading over to the area by the Hyperion Theater where Storytime With Deadpool was.
They had a section taped off for people to sit, but we got away with standing. My mom would have trouble getting back up again if she sat. The show was funny and we got to see Wolverine come out too. It was the same show I saw on Fresh Baked's channel, but I still enjoyed it. It was the one highlight among a pile of shit lol. We went to Joffrey's to get our coffee drinks. The Peanut Butter Cold Brew didn't have the same effect on me as it did last time, but it was still good. My mom got an iced cafe mocha, which she described as tasting like chocolate milk. She didn't think it was great. One last check on the tip board for Rise, but I knew even if it had reopened, it would probably be packed with people checking in their Lightning Lanes. Sure enough, the wait said two hours, which is insane. So, we went with our plan B, which was to go on the Emotional Whirlwind. The wait time said 45 minutes, but it was actually only twenty. I know by now from watching Fresh Baked, what queue is good to get into and what is not. I knew it wasn't going to be 45 minutes and I was right. His tips are so useful.
We exited the park after that, but there was one last thing I wanted to do, and forgot to do last time. That was to go to Downtown Disney and check out the fancy bathroom by Din Tai Fung. And indeed it was fancy. That was it. One ride. A mostly disappointing experience, but at least Deadpool cheered me up. Hopefully next month will be better, and it will be the Festival of Holidays, so that's always something to look forward to.
