A Mini-Vacation

Yesterday, I went with my family to meet up with Grammy's old friends who live in the Palos Verdes/Torrance/Redondo Beach area. We talked a bit at their house first (well I didn't, I stayed silent most of the time.) The husband has dementia. It was kinda funny and sad at the same time. He started speaking to us in German and his wife had to remind him a couple of times that we speak English lol. He would also wander off and go the wrong direction sometimes. We learned he was born in Germany and he was even in the German army. He also had learned English in Australia. I thought that was pretty fascinating. But he didn't seem sad at all. He seemed pretty happy in spite of it all. Then we drove down to this gorgeous hiking trail. I had never seen a more beautiful trail. Lots of flowers and butterflies and overlooking the ocean. It was incredible. Then we went out to lunch. The couple's son met us there. Learned he was the ring bearer at Grammy's wedding I guess, and my dad hadn't seen him since they were little kids. Then they took us on a little tour of the area. It was all very scenic and nice. We stopped at this glass church where Grammy got married. That was pretty neat. Then we stopped at Trump's National Golf Club. That was also nice with a great view of the ocean. Finally, we stopped at a place where whale watching is done. There's a little museum there and a place to walk among the trees. Then afterward we went back to their place and then went home. Even though I was really quiet most of the time, I appreciated the little get-away. It was a really nice day for it.
