Van Life

Fuck. I'm having problems falling asleep, and I need to drive tomorrow. I forgot to take my meds, which was one problem. Then You took them and was starting to nod off when a guy pulled into the parking lot blasting his stereo. Not the hotel's fault, but still, last night was do not recommend.

I got over to Mom's a little after 9. She was eating breakfast, and I ate breakfast. Unfortunately the breakfast went right through her. She had me clean up after her and I was gagging. After she had two emergency trips to the bathroom, I suggested that we wait for an hour before leaving. Around 2 PM we went. We made it to the gas station when Mom had another bathroom emergency. We ran into Dunkin Donuts to use the bathroom. After she finished, I asked if she wanted any donuts, so we bought a few as payment for the bathroom.

At that point, I recommended that she stay at my aunt's, and I would drive the van over to her house in Michigan. Then I would drive her back home in the car, which is easier to get in and out of, on the weekend. So I left. I got caught in a ton of traffic coming out of Chicago, and it took me two hours to get out of the city. I stopped at the first small town in Indiana after getting out of the 'burbs.

There I discovered that I had lost my car key. I went to call Mom about it, only to find that my phone had completely drained of power. Lovely.

Then in a rest stop near Battle Creek, a truck went into the auto driveway, and was backing up, and I tried to get out of his way, and we collided. Honestly, I think that it was both our faults. I really, really needed to go to the bathroom, so I did, but then I wasn't sure where the truck was, so I left without filing a police report, which was a mistake that I'll remedy tonight.

I got in around 1 AM local time. Then I was roaming the house trying to figure out where we could put Mom's stuff. She has piles of stuff everywhere. I also was keyed up, and couldn't fall asleep. I finally ate some oatmeal and took my meds (I forgot), and took a warm shower, and was able to fall asleep. However, I woke up before my alarm went off. I called U-Haul, and they said that they wanted a police report, so I'm going to stop en route and get one.

The Task Rabbit guy showed up at the earlier time that we originally discussed. I pulled out the "fragile" stuff that Mom had wanted to put in last, and he made quick work of the rest. Then I called Mom and told her about my missing car key, the accident, and the fact that we had unloaded the van.

Then I tried to nap, but was too keyed up. I ate some lunch. Tried to nap, but was too keyed up. I noticed that Mom called, and a neighbor had found the car key. Yay.

I DoorDashed an air mattress and asked them to leave it by the back door. 40 minutes later, I went to get it and it was gone. I'm kind of wondering if the DoorDash person took it because no one could see it from the street, but I can't prove that.

So I ordered another one, and this time asked them to hand it to me. Now I'm going to eat some dinner, and try to nap one more time.

Honestly, I feel like I'm living in hell. I think that I'm going to stay over and get a really early start in the morning. I don't feel safe to drive.

mom, moving
