Okay, we're winding down. With the BAFTA's out of the way that leaves the Academy Awards. With the wins today it's almost a sure thing that we will have a "La La Land" Oscar sweep. DAMMIT.
OUTSTANDING BRITISH FILM
I, DANIEL BLAKE
Ken Loach, Rebecca O’Brien, Paul Laverty
**Accepting his speech Mr. Loach condemned the Tory government, Thank you to the academy for endorsing the truths of what the film says, which hundreds and thousands of people in this country know, the most vulnerable and poorest are treated by the Government with a callous brutality that is disgraceful, a brutality that extends to keeping out refugee children we promised to help and that's a disgrace too.
"Films can do many things, they can entertain, terrify, they can make us laugh and tell us something about the real world we live in - sorry it's early for a political speech - and in that real world it's getting darker and in the struggle that is coming between rich and poor and the wealthy and the privileged and the big corporations and politicians who speak for them.
"The rest of us on the other side - film makers know which side they are on and despite the glitz and glamour of occasions like this, we are with the people."

EMMA STONE . La La Land
DIRECTOR
Damien Chazelle. LA LA LAND
LEADING ACTOR
CASEY AFFLECK, Manchester by the Sea
*Casey’s PR people have been giving him tips on how to make him seem not like a sleazeball. His Golden Globes speech was humble and invoked family and his BAFTA speech presented his foray into acting, ““The reason I act is because when I was a young kid, my mother would take me to Al-Anon meetings for the children of alcoholics and the kids there would try to reenact the people they were affected by. It was therapy but it was acting, and that’s why I got into it. If you were wondering, that’s why I act.”

KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS, Travis Knight
**Justice for Kubo finally! “Zootopia” has been winning at various guild awards and to me, artistically, “Kubo”is vastly superior.
FILM NOT IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
SON OF SAUL, László Nemes, Gábor Sipos
DOCUMENTARY
13TH, Ava DuVernay
**Finally got around to watching it. Fantastic, comprehensive look on the laws were put in place to disenfranchise the lower economic class which led to disparate jail sentencing and how the prison industrial complex makes money off of their free labor.

THE EE RISING STAR AWARD
(voted for by public)
TOM HOLLAND
**Since the BAFTAs asked for brevity Tom said that he would be sending texts to everyone but wanted to thank his acting coaches for their guidance led him to “Billy Elliott” and “The Impossible”, two projects he said helped him get to where he is now. I thought that was very gracious of him. Backstage he said that he voted for Ruth Negga.
On the red carpet he said he hoped to meet Andrew Garfield and that he would ask him for advice on playing SpiderMan which is odd because Tom has now played SpiderMan more times than Garfield as he has suited up for the third time (Capt. America: Civil War, SpiderMan:Homecoming and The Avengers: Infinity Wars”).
But he got his chance to chat with his predecessor.
