Who's Playing What? SV Alums Doing Stuff...

Aug 23, 2013 10:08

~Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder, who managed to eke out fan support of “Man of Steel” even though a great number of fans were disappointed by its representation of Superman, is now trying its luck by announcing the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman in their upcoming Superman/Batman mashup sequel to “Man of Steel”.

Affleck as Batman or as people have begun referring to him as BatFleck has everyone giving their opinions.

You..you have nerves

Affleck’s casting comes after rumors that the studio was at everyone from Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin to Jeffrey Dean Morgan (which is a rumor I believed because of his Zack Snyder connection due to “Watchmen”).

I’m sure he already has his response to his haters prepared

.

But I will point out that no one expected to like Heath Ledger’s Joker. When he was cast people just thought of a heartthrob who didn’t have range and he proved people wrong. His Joker arguably supplanted Jack Nicholson’s performance as the best take on the Joker.

Smallville Alum Role Call

~We lost a good one with the death of Lee Thompson Young who played Cyborg/Victor Stone.. Young who has steadily acted since he was a kid (taking some time out to attend USC) was found dead from self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was the first person to portray a live-action Victor Stone.

“Smallville” alums Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, Laura Vandervoort, Phil Morris and Kyle Gallner tweeted their condolences while show’s writer Bryan Q. Miller simply retweeted the number for the National Suicide Prevention hotline.

He was remembered online by fellow actors who worked with him (many bit players on “Rizzoli & Isles” said the same thing: He was generous, a gentleman and kind), Donald Faison who knew Young from his time on “Scrubs”, Gabrielle Union who worked with Young on “FlashFoward”, Chris Gohrman, Sheryl Lee Ralph whose son was friends with LTY, Michae Ealy, Eric Winter, Dule Hill, Rachael Leigh Cook who calls his death a loss to the acting community, other child actors who knew or worked with him like “High School Musical”s Monique Coleman, Keke Palmer, Kyla Pratt, Wesley Jonathan

and personal friends, Terry Crews, Columbus Short (“Scandal”) and Meagan Good.

Meagan’s post

Scores and scores of fans who grew up watching Young on “The Famous Jett Jackson” tweeted their shock and hurt over his passing.

Shawn Levy who directed "Cheaper by the Dozen" was the executive producer on "The Famous Jett Jackson" and until today has been silent about Lee on his account. He gave an interview where he spoke lovingly of Lee, describing him as "an amazing actor, an incredible, driven athlete, a voracious student, both in school and out, a loving and loyal son and a great and treasured friend to me and the many other people whose lives he entered. There’s no telling what great things he would have accomplished, onscreen and off, and it’s heartbreaking that now we will never know.”

Today, after Lee's service he took to Twitter and wrote "Sadness over LeeYoung's death is much more than 140chars can convey. Our careers started 2gether.I'll cherish him&our shared memories forever"

Since he left no note there is still speculation on the reason why he killed himself. A unnamed source says that he suffered from depression and that he didn’t have a support system as his family lives in Atlanta including his mother Dr. Velma Love a professor at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Young was viewed as such a together person that one college friend speculated that he was killed and it was set up to look like a suicide.

I just feel that these speculations don’t help and cause more pain because it’s looking to blame someone else for his act. As one of his friends tweeted “for some reason he felt it was his time to go.”

There will be a service today at Paramount studios.

~Tom Welling lucked out in being cast in the JFK assassination drama "Parkland". The film directed by and produced by Tom Hanks Playtone Productions has been selected to play at a number of film festivals! "Parkland" will debut at the Toronto Film Festival, Venice Film Festival and the British Film Institute's Film Festival. The movie will begin its theatrical run on October 3rd a month before the 50 year anniversary of JFK's death.

The trailer is out and this is the pertinent part

There

Welling plays Roy Kellerman’s one of Kennedy’s Secret Service Agents. There is a docudrama coming up on ReelzChannel that takes supposition from a book that the fatal shot that killed Kennedy actually came from a Secret Service Agent who was trying to get off a shot at the assassin and mistakenly hit Kennedy and that agents knew this to be true.

Meanwhile I can take his intermittent work but I cannot take his hanging with Chad Michael Murray.

Mid-Life Crisis Alert

I have the same look on my face, Tom.

*People talk a lot about Zac Efron and Marcia Gay Harden and Paul Giamatti in this film but look at James Badge Dale all front in center. I swear I went from not knowing who the hell he was to seeing him all over the place over the past few months in “Flight”, “Iron Man 3”, “The Lone Ranger”, “World War Z”.

Mind you I his combined screen time in all of those films was less than thirty minutes but it’s quality over quantity.

Dale was a child actor appearing in the 1987 version of “The Lord of the Flies

and comes from an acting family. His mother was the late actress Anita Morris who vamped it up in “Ruthless People” and in on Broadway in “Nine”.

His dad is choreographer Grover Dale who slays it the “He’s My Friend” number in “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”

James and Grover

According to Tab Hunter’s book after their breakup, Anthony Perkins began a relationship with Grover that lasted six years.

One rumor is that Perkins and Dale’s relationship only ended when a therapist suggested that the two of them marry women. Perkins married Berry Berenson and ten days later Dale married Morris.

Still looking good

Back to SV alums.

~Justin Hartley is working! I worried for the dude after the cancellation of “Emily Owens M.D”. He had to resort to guest starring on “Melissa and Joey”. Those were dark times.

Now he has a high profile gig playing Patrick, the son of Victoria Grayson in Season Three of “Revenge”.

It looks like he’s fitting in nicely

On a horse on set

Before being cast Justin funned it up with his daughter Isabella.

Hung out with best friend/Booster Gold Eric Martsolf

Justin took a trip to Paris with his mom and little sis, Gabriella.

Season Three will be a rebuilding after the all around sucktastickness of S2. Show’s created Mike Kelley has been ousted and replaced by former staff writer Sunil Nayar. Says Nayar about Justin. “He is so fantastic,” Nayar gushed. “He’s a dream. (he and another new castmember) are extraordinary actors and they also are just the same spirit as the rest of our cast.”

And Nick Wechsler says, “Justin's a handsome, tall, ripped man - Women are going to go ape shit.”

Someone’s trying to sabotage’s Justin’s “ripped”ness and it’s no other than Scott Porter of “Hart of Dixie” who tried to tempt Justin with chocolate cake.

The “fuk your abs” in raspberry sauce is inspired.

~Season Two of Erica Durance’s show “Saving Hope” is underway. The cast appeared at the Canadian TCAs earlier this summer.

Lois Lane, Hawkman and Elijah

Also at the Canadian TCAs was Laura Vandervoort in support of her new show “Bitten”.

Laura’s castmates

Erica also caught up with Kristin Kreuk.

And was wished a Happy Birthday by Eric “Whitney, you don’t even go here” Johnson.

Maybe it’s the Canadian connection

~Allison Mack took to Twitter for fan questions when Justin asked one of his own.

~Michael Rosenbaum has reason to celebrate. He celebrated his 41st birthday

With gifts from Carrie Fisher and her daughter Billie

Fun times with buddies

and a renaming of his writing/directorial debut “Old Days” which is now called “Back in the Day”

Imagine it with “Back in the Day”

You can tell its inspiration.

~John Glover reunited with good friend Blair Brown in the play “Nikolai and the Others”.

Their friendship has stretched over hairstyles

Brown appeared in an episode of “Smallville” as Rachael Dunleavy, Lionel’s mistress who believed she was Clark’s mother.

Haviland Morris, who is also in the play

previously worked with Glover in “Gremlins 2”.

Glover gets better with age.

~John Schneider continues to not not work as one of the stars of OWN’s “Tyler Perrys: The Haves and Have Nots”

Getting it in with Tika Sumpter

Pretty agile, Bo Kent

~The Brothers Ashmore are steadily working. Good Twin’s show “Warehouse 13” is ending. Shawn returns to season two of “The Following” and has wrapped work on “X-Men: Days of Futures Past”.

Shawn did an interview on a chat show two years ago where he was asked if he and Aaron shared any twin intuition (twintuition). He said the only time it’s came close to that was one night he was nearly in a car accident, where he had to swerve from hitting a car head on. As he was trying to avoid the car his phone began to go off. Shakened, he pulled over and checked his phone and saw that it was a missed call from Aaron who left a message checking to see if Shawn was okay because he had been awaken from a nightmare that Shawn had died in a plane crash.

Before I laughed at the idea of Aaron playing Jared Padalecki’s brother in that horrible movie “The Christmas Cottage”

but looking at Aaron’s profile, I can see a similarity.

It’s the nose

~Cassidy Freeman is a married lady! As of September 2012. How did I miss that? And to a man. How did I miss that?! I still says she loves the ladies on occasion.

Justin digs her hat

~Callum Blue had an arc on “Royal Pains”.

Looking good, Zod

~I can’t say it’s a reunion because they never worked on “Smallville” together but Serinda Swan (Zatanna) and Adrian Holmes (Basquat) hung out earlier this year.

Adrian had a role in Neill Blomkamp's "Elysium". I had no idea that Blomkamp did Visual Effects for "Smallville".

~Phil Morris took time off from posting pictures of his impressive comic book tee collection

to revisit his “Seinfeld” character Jackie Chiles for a series of commercials.

~The L’ilest Hater Ian Somerhalder gave an interview where he discusses his worry about filling the void left by departing cast members Joseph Morgan and Claire Holt who are in the TVD spinoff “The Originals”.

Ian gives a make- me- wanna-holler-throw-up-both-my-hands quote:

“Who are the other people who are gonna be coming on the show? Are they gonna be good? Because it's The CW, and everyone has to be pretty, and there aren't a lot of pretty people that can act well. I'm not joking! I'm one of them, that can act well. Not to sound s**tty about it, but casting is always tough. I feel like they worked so hard on casting this show... and hopefully they just continue to put great actors in."

Now he’s not telling an untruth. CWdoes cast pretty people who cannot act ::slyly eyes Stephen Amell, Jay Ryan and Rachel Bilson:: but he didn’t include his other cast members as one who can act. He could’ve at least said, “Our cast excluded” or maybe not say anything at all.

And that trick’s idea of ‘acting’ is just doing crazy eyes after each Damon statement and arching his eyebrows.

Mr. Somerhalder,come get your son

~Supernatural paid raised over $50,000 for a picture of Jensen Ackles, wife Daneel and their daughter Justice Jay Hats of to Cancer as a gift to Jensen and his family.

They were rewarded with a picture of the happy family.

Even though Daneel and JJ were papped weeks ago

Jared announced that he and Ruby No. 2 are expecting their second child.

Misha has two,

Maison and West love their berries

Jared will have two. Jen get ready to grow your daddy beard again.

Does he have Viking blood?

Hey Jensen, we’re on a show that is mindboggingly still on the air, fans love us and we have wonderful wives. What more could you want?”

::thinking:: You in my arms twined together in bed across the street at the Hilton while I brush your hair back from your eyes::

The Mortal Instruments-City of Bones

The first book in the Young Adult series written by Cassandra Clare (who I only know about because OhNoTheyDidn’t and FandomWank), “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” merges the mystical realm of the Harry Potter books with the caught-between-two-worlds romance of “Twilight” to create a cinematic bunch of ridiculousness not seen since the all the “Twilight” films and Julian Sands “Warlock”.

The film has some laughably bad moments, literally as more than a few times the theater erupted into laughter at scenes that were played for dramatic affect. I was polite and just shock my head in disappointment.

Lily Collins plays Clary (who couldn’t possibly be a Mary Sue for Cassandra CLARE see because CLARE? CLARY? Nothing alike) who is troubled by the symbols she draws unbidden. In search for meaning of the symbol she is drawn into sights of Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower) who reveals why Clary can see her and others, like her best friend Simon (Robert Sheehan) can’t.

Sheehan has a great flair for style but not footwear. Those mandals!!

Clary discovers that she is from a line of shadowcasters-demon warriors. The demons as well as the shadowcasters are in search of a treasure that only Clary mother (Lena Headey) knows the location of. When she goes missing, Clary and Jace’s fellow shadowcasters: brother and sister team Alec and Isabelle (Kevin Zegers and Jemima West)

as well as Simon attempt to find the treasure before Valentine- (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) a shadowcaster who has joined the darkside -does.

The film is directed by Harald Zwart director of such gems like “Agent Cody Banks” and the “The Karate Kid” remake and adapted for the screen by Jessica Postigo (whose other credits include the sequel to this claptrap and the remake of “Tarzan” which is starring Kellan Lutz so we know how this will be). I don’t know how close it keeps to the canon nor do I know if terrible dialogue is lifted from the books or Postigo is as much as a hack as Clare is. I do know that these actors should be applauded for thinking they could work with such terribly written words.

Collins can emote better than Kristen Stewart and looks like she actually believes in what she’s doing. Campbell-Bower’s accent, cheekbones (I think the film’s subtitle “City of Bones” is an allusion to his figure) and the cocksure attitude of Jace makes up for the fact that Campbell-Bower cannot act.

Slightly better is Jonathan Rhy-Meyers. JRM is the future version of Jamie Campbell-Bower except Jonny could act when he was Jamie’s age and hopefully, unlike Jonny, Jamie won’t be fueled by

The cast is round out by actor/model Godfrey Gao as the mysterious Magnus Bane who could hold the answers to Clary’s questions

and Adrian Turner as Luke, Clary’s mother best friend and confident who has secrets of his own.
