Smallville S10 Complete Series is Here, SV Alums..

Dec 03, 2011 03:04

~Happy Birthday drkcherry! Hope you get everything you wish for.

Smallville Bits and Bobs

SV is no more. I know, I know, this happened back in May. But what made it really hit home for me is that there is no longer a Smallville page on the CW website.

I’m spilling some of my 40 oz on the ground right now

But besides living in our hearts and our perverted minds, SV lives on in DVD. The complete series has been released, as well as the standalone S10 DVD.

At Best Buy, they’re selling S10 with a shirt. A shirt that seems to pay homage to The Daily Planet. Even though the Planet wasn’t globe isn’t greyscale.

I get they’re tying in The Blur with the Planet, but c’mon! Let a fan design this stuff

*Also on the Best Buy site, they’re offering the complete set with Clark in his leather daddy jacket that Ollie hooked him up with.

*If you’re like me and are not planning to buy the complete series or unless there’s a price cut, here’s what we’re missing.

*We also missed this outtake that TV Guide just released of Lois and Clark, who looks like an accountant.

Able to file tax returns at the speed of sound!

On the alum front:

*Kristin reunited with her “Ecstasy” costar Billy Boyd, along with “Sanctuary”s Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne for “Space Milkshake”. The teaser trailer is up. It looks like a cross between “Red Dwarf” and maybe “Charlie’s Angels”.

One thing for sure: She’s still a beauty.

*Justin Hartley will appear in an upcoming episode of “Castle” titled “An Embarassment of…::sigh:: Bitches”. It’ll costar Hillarie Burton, formerly of “One Tree Hill”/current Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s baby mama, as his girlfriend, a Kim Kardashian type.

Justin’s hustling now that Lindsay is once again without work. Lindsay who has bounced from “Passions”, to “Days of Our Lives” to “All My Children” was one of the few stars of AMC to sign on for the online venture. The deal collapsed before Thankgiving due to the production company Prospect Park not being able to receive enough funding to continue AMC and “One Life to Live”-they would’ve needed at least 80 million dollars to make it work as planned. Prospect Park, however, largely places the blame on The Writers Guild for not working out a reduced pay for the writers.

*Allison Mack’s “Marilyn” (which costars Ryan Robbins, “Louis”, SV) will screen tomorrow the Whistler Film Festival.

Here’s a really poorly lit clip

She shows her range by swearing a lot, but relies on her stock facial expressions.

Chloe reaction #48: “Oh, noes”

*Michael Rosenbaum isn’t returning to “Breaking In”, but he’ll be just fine, thank you. He’s in the indie drug-deal-gone-bad flick “Catch .44”

The film stars Bruce Willis, Forrest Whitaker, Malin Akerman (“Watchman”), Nikki Reed (“Twilight”), Deborah Ann Woll (“True Blood”) and Shea Whigman (“Boardwalk Empire”s unlucky Eli Thompson). It’s a very Tarantino-esque film.

It’s out now on On Demand and DVD

Rosey is also in friend Dax Shephard’s “Outrun” which just has been picked up for distribution. The film is written/directed and stars Dax, his girlfriend Kristen Bell, and his friends/ “Brothers Justice” comrades Tom Arnold, Bradley Cooper, David Koechner and Ryan Hansen. The film: “centers on a former getaway driver who busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend (Bell) to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip hits a snag when they are chased by the feds (Arnold) and a gang of criminals, led by Cooper.”

*Besides being rewarded for the charity work he’s doing with the Thirst Project, a non-profit that helps raise awareness and solutions for clean drinking water globally..

…is still picking up work. He did voicework alongside Christina Hendricks for the video game “Need for Speed” and was just cast in the upcoming “Pawn” starring Michael Chiklis, “Terra Nova”s Stephen Lang and Nikki Reed and Jonathan Bennett.
*The greatest Luthor henchman that ever lived Ari Cohen, is steadily working as well. I’m not sure if “My Babysitter’s a Vampire” has been renewed, but Ari has appeared in several series recently: “Suits”, “Up Against the Wall” which stars Desaad himself, Steve Byers;

He’s also in the film “A Small Town Murder Songs” which stars Martha Plimpton and Peter Stomare who is rocking a real fake looking mustache.

Regan Matthews on the side of the law

*“Smallville” had a MAD send up-two actual: one in MAD magazine and another on the Cartoon Network series with “Smallville: Turn Off the Clark”

It was actually funny

Since SPN wasn’t even an option to get the cover of TV Guide this year, those shameless hussies known as Jared and Jensen are selling their souls to get votes for the People Choice Awards.

~This is where I talk about shows I’m watching.

Revenge
Real!Emily is a mess and a half. She’s going to end up in the bay. I’m oddly fine with her imposing on Amanda’s plot; I think it’s good for Amanda to see that once you go down the path of revenge it’s a harrowing one. You can’t glide by it. But when she starts playing with Jack’s emotion?

Heifer’s gotta go!

I like that Nolan is getting his own storyline with this cat and mouse game with Tyler.

Joshua Bowman did it better (at the Joshua 7:43 mark)

But what I loved even more? Tyler schooling Ashley in the ways of social climbing. I love that he was pretty up front in that he does what he has to to get what he wants and that she needs to play the game or get out the sandbox. And it seems like she’s going to do it.

Before this episode the site AfterElton was taking the show to task for not showing a Nolan/Tyler kiss. The show’s creator Mike Kelly had explain that he’s more interested in what goes on behind closed doors, that moment when the clothes drop and the camera pans away, but that only seemed to be the case for Tyler/Nolan when we saw a fairly involved love scene between Emily and Daniel.

But Ashton Holmes (Tyler) said that there were other scenes cyt. These cuts make sense because had they aired them, then Tyler’s seduction of Nolan wouldn’t have been so shocking.

Insider: Oh? What was taken out?

Ashton: Ashton: There was a lot about Tyler's weird obsession with Daniel. Remember that episode where Daniel got drunk, well, when he passed out, Tyler kissed him as he slept. That was taken out. They also took out a moment when he passed out at the Stowaway where I tried to have my way with him. The stuff with Nolan and I, they definitely scaled it back. It was more sexy.

the dog’s age.

American Horror Story
I think I lose a bit of my soul each week. It’s so morbid and disturbing, but I can’t turn away because I want to see what is keeping these people in the house. Not the ghosts, no, why the hell is that family still there? They don’t have family they can live with?

I think this past week’s episode has made me stop asking that question because it’s obvious something is wrong with Ben. He knows full well Hayden is dead. She’s DEAD! Yet he stands there trying to reason with her? He doesn’t even ask how she’s standing there? How come she’s not buried under the gazebo?

Boardwalk Empire
I was in Munya’s corner until this week. I’m fine with him killing people who intrude on his business or are out to kill him. I was even fine with the idea of him possibly killing Jimmy because Jimmy is getting to big for his itchy britches, but Angela? I was just beginning to like Angela! Once she got over needing Jimmy’s attention and affection; once she began seeking her own joy where she can find it and not worry over not being included in Jimmy’s business and stopped looking at him like he was her salvation, she became a much better character.

I loved three episodes back when Nucky, Rothstein and I forget the other guy came together to talk about their proteges who have tried to make it on their own: Al Capone, Jimmy and Lucky Luciano. And now I hate Owen Slater. Like Jimmy, he’s in the pocket with whoever is in power, or can give him the most. Nucky’s seen that now that Owen sat there and let his mentor be killed.

Dexter
Dexter started out swell, then petered off, but thanks to last weeks’ twist, I’m excited again. What is going on with LaGuerta?! Ambition has ruined her…it’s kinda cool. And are they trying to suggest that Deb’s in love with “Dexter” and that’s why she’s up in arms that he doesn’t let her into his life?

Once Upon a Time
This past week’s episode worked on so many levels that it may have edged OuaT up before “Revenge” as my favorite new show.

And it’s not just because Sheriff Graham’s uniform makes him look like a hipster Village People. That uniform screams cop, cowboy and biker.

Took me half of “Thor” to realize one of his friends wasn’t Cary Elwes. It took me until this week to realize that actor was actually Josh Dallas.

Prince Charming to you

This past episode which dealt with Jiminy’s origins was perfect. Written by “Warehouse 13” and Buffy vet Jane Espenson, it was a fantastic mix of humor thanks to Harry Groener (who was the Big Bad of Buffy in S3) and Carolyn Hennessy as Jiminy/Archie’s parents and the Archie’s dog being named Pongo (101 Dalmations reference! And either it was Little Red Riding hood lounging at the site or that was supposed to be a Cruella DeVille reference?) and poignancy: two mothers united for their son and Jiminy/Archie’s quest to be a good person. But the perfect moment was when Jiminy made his silent wish to the Blue Fairy and she turned him into a cricket. She asked him how did he feel and he hopped up and down, threw his head back and chirped “Free”. It felt magical. It was really touching. And then all the crickets returned and we realize that Emma really is enacting change gave me goosebumps.

Since Awards season is underway I’m starting with the songs that The Hollywood Reporter has spotlight as possible Best Song nominees for The Golden Globes and Oscars.

So Long- She & Him (Zooey Deschanel/M. Ward) -From “Winnie The Pooh’s Adventure”

The Keeper-Chris Cornell (my 2nd pick)-From “Machine Gun Preacher”

Love Builds a Garden-Elton John -From “Gnomeo and Juliet”

The Star Spangled Man-Alan Menken -From “Captain America: The First Avenger”

Man or Muppet-Jason Segal

Life’s a Happy Song-Jason Segal, Amy Adams, Feist, Mickey Rooney

*All songs are written and performed by the singers with the exception of “Man or Muppet” and “Life’s a Happy Song” which were written by Bret Mackenzie of Flight of the Conchords

Here’s Bret’s demo version with Kermit

Life’s a Happy Song: Bret McKenzie and Kermit

~Songs I’m Listening To

*With a band as big and bold as U2, a simple album comprised of their covers isn’t sufficient. There’s an actual tribute album that is a tribute to a U2 album. Songs from Achtung Baby was recreated on AHK-Toong Bay-Bi. Artists included Damien Rice (“One”), Nine Inch Nails (“Zoo Station”), Snow Patrol (“Mysterious Ways”), Depeche Mode (“So Cruel”) and Garbage, who put their own spin on

Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses-Garbage

*“Glee”s Naya Rivera and Idina Menzel does a faithful cover of K.D Lang’s “Constant Craving”. I’m not sure if the episode has aired or not because this seems to be a sample track because it sounds as if the women are just singing over KD’s track. The music is exactly the same from KD’s song. It’s like Karoake. But damn good karaoke.

Constant Craving: Naya Rivera and Indina Menzel/Glee Cast

Constant Craving: KD Lang (Live)

KD also does covers. This is the first time I saw her on TV. She performed the very theatrical “Johnny Get Angry”, a cover of Joanie Summers’ song.

Her range at the end is astounding!

szólj hozzá: k.d. lang - Johnny Get Angry

*On the same episode is a cover of Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m the Only One” sang by. Not that good. But I get a kick out of the fact that they’re using a Etheridge song and Melissa’s ex Tammy Lynn Michaels starred in Ryan Murphy’s first series “Popular”.

I’m the Only One: Mark Sailing/Glee Cast

*Whoever is the music supervisor on “The Vampire Diaries” has a perfect ear and taste for what sets a scene. And twice now, maybe more if I actually watched more shows on CW, there has been other shows that have cribbed songs from TVD. I can see this being gakked by “Hart of Dixie”. The beautiful Free Like You Make Me: The Cary Brothers

*Continuing in the lulzy way the CW bring on musicians/bands to their shows (remember Lex bought All American Rejects for Clark?), My Morning Jacket was on “The Vampire Diaries”. And for such an indie darling band it would seem like selling out, but My Morning Jacket first came to my attention in an episode of FOX’s “American Dad” where Stan fell in love with the group and became a…well stan for them. Much like Kings of Leon, the group has a southern rock flavor to their sound. There’s something about the structure of the song, with the downbeats coming in at an uneven time just adds to the leisurely vibe Jim Johnson creates with this voice. The Day is Coming: My Morning Jacket

*I swear I get most of my music from TV. I watched the “Arrested Development” marathon on IFC and they kept playing an advert for “Portlandia”, their original series starring and cocreated by Fred Amisen of “Saturday Night Live” which had this song playing underneath it. Lo-fi, ambient with a funky beat underneath. If I was still listening to college radio I’m sure this would be on heavy rotation:

Feel It All Around: Washed Out

*This is used in a commercial. I don’t remember the product, but I had to search AdTunes for the song. Bubbly, energetic and rambunctious; a true feel good song.

Tongue Tied: Grouplove

*For some reason when I first heard this song I didn’t like it. It took watching her perform it on “Saturday Night Live” for me to feel it. Florence Welch has a voice that can bring down the ceilings (maybe that’s why her first CD was titled “Lungs”) and I wish she’d go as far with her voice as she can because I know she could take it church. She has a powerfully soulful voice, which is just further evident on this track

Shake It Out: Florence & The Machine

*It doesn’t have the hook of an “Umbrella” or “S &M”, but I can see this being another hit for Rihanna. Very cute song. You Da One: Rihanna

*I’ve been thinking about this song all week for some crazy reason. I think I’m in my AM Gold phase again. I had no idea that it was written by the Bee Gees with Maurice supplying backup vocals. Dionne Warwick: Heartbreaker

And I’m sad to hear that my favorite Gibb, Robin (I always went for the underdogs) was diagnosed with liver cancer.

*A few years ago One Republic’s Teddy Vedder came under fire by Kelly Clarkson for giving Halo to Beyonce, a song that sounded a lot like the track Teddy wrote for Kelly called . I don’t think this was an instance of David Guetta giving two performers the same track, just that he wanted to see their takes on it. Here is Sia and Mary J. Blige both singing “Titanium”. I’m going to give this one to Sia. Her vocals are more vibrant.

Titanium: David Guetta ft. Sia

Bad News for Lois

I’m sorry Lois, but now that I know Conner belongs to me and Lex, I must find Lex and raise our son together!”
