Geology Trip and Orientation.

Let me start out with saying that the last three weeks have been AMAZING!!!!  I am also sorry I havnt posted it a long time.  Anyway, the geology trip was a two week course through Augustana college that took place in SD and WY, it also was worth 3 labscience credits.  We left for the badlands early on sunday morning and arrived about 13 hours later and had supper in the dark.  The metior shower was that weekend and we had a spectacular view of it.  I saw around 20 good metiors and around 5 really good ones.  We camped in the National Park in a campground.  On the first day I scrapped the heck out of my left leg and left hand.  We camped in the most amazing places and had the most awsome views.  We camped for one night in the badlands, two in central Black Hills, two in North western Black Hills.  After that we went to the bighorns and camped two more nights in the bighorns.  We always camped at state or national parks, so we didnt have showers or flushing toilets.  We took baths in a 52 degree stream and a 58 degree lake that we had to hike up a mountain for about 4 miles to get to.  Then we spent 5 nights at Mickelson field station.  We had showers there, it was pure bliss to have a warm shower.  Then we stayed one night in Wind River Canyon and one night in Lexington Nebraska.  The geology we saw on the trip was extremely interesting and made one think quiet a lot about how it was formed and arrived at its current location.  I could write a small book about my experiences.  The people I met were really neat and interesting, not to mention varied in home towns.  There was one girl from California and one guy from New York City.  The rest of us were either from Chicago suburbs, Wisconsin or Iowa.  I will remain friends with them for a long time.  If anyone wants to know more just call me.

Orientation weekend is finally over and it was a rush.  So many new people and ideas in just the first three days.  We went on a riverboat cruise last night for around three hours, it was a good time.  Its crazy to run into so many people that have similar interests and also people of completely different personalities and morals.  I have not liked going to bed at 3 and 4 in the morning, but hey, its orientation, and we get to sleep in till 9 or ten in the morning, for now.  I think this year is going to turn out to be a really good time.  And Joey hasnt destroyed the room yet, which is always a plus.
