Looked at a house in Rochester hills today that was very promising. Good location, way in the back of the sub, far away from all major roads. The yard and outside of the house looked great fairly far back from the street. The backyard was very large, sure it means more lawn to cut. The inside layout with three okay sized bedrooms and 1 small but very nice looking bathroom. The house had a living room in the front, and a small kitchen area, then a very nice family room with fireplace in back.
The house is missing a basement, but it does have a garage with guerilla shelves on one side for storage and a work bench. I don't think storage would be a big issue. The yard and other factors kind of make up for the lack of basement, plus a basement can bring it's own issues.
The kitchen area maybe the biggest sticking point. It is very nicely done, but fairly small, and their is a door that hides the laundry room. Not the entrance to the laundry area, but the wash and dry stacked on top of each other basically take up the doorway. On either side of the washer and dry is the water heater and furnace. If you needed to get at either one the washer and dry would need to be pulled out.
