New Soccer Ball for Daniel/Soapbox for Dave

Proper Ball Care:

  • Refrain from exposure to excessive amounts of water. Water may penetrate the cover of the ball and cause the ball to become heavier.

  • Do not expose to temperatures above 30°c/86°f during washing or drying.

  • Do not play with a wet ball during freezing temperatures.

  • Do not stand or sit on the ball. This can cause the ball tobecome warped and lose its shap affecting the true flight and play of the ball.

  • Do not kick the ball against hard walls as excessive impacts on hard surfaces may cause ball to lose its shape.

  • Do not kick the ball on rough surfaces like concrete or asphalt as this will cause excessive wear and will decrease the lifespan of the ball.

I have two responses to this:
  1. Silly sporting goods manufacturers. :)
  2. Gracious Sakes! How is a kid supposed to learn to play if he's only going to use the ball in nice weather on grass? Whatever happened to the old advice that a kid should take his or her ball everywhere? I'd rather have a happy, healthy kid who enjoys soccer than a soccer ball in mint condition. :-P

Hope the folks from Umbro don't stop by to see us playing ball in the rainy streets while waiting for the school bus in the morning.

When Dugal and I ran the rec soccer program up in Limestone, the only money we wanted was enough to give each kid a ball. As we ran different clinics and activities throughout the year, it was cool to see those balls come back. The kids were using the hell out of them. I loved seeing those balls all scuffed up and knocked off their round. I'm looking forward to seeing those kids names in the game summaries for the high school games in a few years.
