Summary:
Tree I:
Jaime and Kaylee are spotted by Simon as they're headed into the lingerie store. Kaylee chats with Simon while Jaime makes a purchase, and then the three of them discuss what to get their giftees. The idea of chocolate, fruit, or chocolate covered fruit comes up, and they shop there for a bit. Jaime, per usual, manages to put a naughty twist on all of Simon's gift ideas, but fortunately, Jaime is soon distracted by thoughts of dress shopping.
Left alone with Simon, Kaylee offers a few suggestions of what to get Kat, and they venture into a jewelry shop where Simon purchases a necklace for Kat. They part ways shortly thereafter, when Simon is reminded he hasn't checked on River lately.
Tree II:
Pepper bumps into Kai while she's out shopping, and they're shortly joined by Bobby. They discuss Christmas, gift giving, and ask each other about their giftees to try to get some hints. Pepper reveals that Edward and Jasper are brothers, and vampires, which puts a twist on what sort of gifts to get.
Pepper roams off to do some shopping on her own, and Bobby and Kai wander off to shop together. They run into a novelty gift type store where Bobby searches for lava lamps. Kai finds a lightsaber, but Bobby remains undecided.
Johnny roams in, elevating the level of awkward off the charts. Kai picks up on this and leaves. Bobby makes a half-assed attempt to talk to Johnny, but winds up fumbling through things before deciding he should stop talking and probably just leave.
Jaime had left a note for Mal and gone to round up Kaylee before taking off to go shopping. Christmas! She couldn't even believe that, and only a day of notice, and so many stores to look at and people to think about buying for. She owed Ais and James at least a card for their running with her in Riverfell. She had to find something shiny for Mal and Kaylee and Wash, and she had to buy a complete stranger a present.
She didn't even know who this Eric guy was! Kaylee didn't either, and that was unhelpful as anything to her.
She really hated buying generic gifts, but she might not have a choice.
Oh, and to top that off, she was going to decorate Mal's room, which she was starting to think of as her room. Kaylee had promised to either help or distract Mal, whichever seemed the likeliest plan.
Jaime was going all out for Christmas.
Kaylee trailed along after Jaime, marveling a little at the girl's exuberance. Who would've thought that just yesterday she'd been worried for her life?
