I have never been to Portugal before, so I wanted to have been near the sea at least a few days. So we drove on westwards and reached Vargos just at the time, the football game Germany vs Serbia started. We watched this desaster in a little sports bar. After the game we asked for the campsite.
They told us the way, which we hadn't found because of missing signs (a very common thing in Portugal :s).
The campsite was not nice, but we stayed anyway, too tired to search for someplace else and had to pay for two nights in advance anyway. The best things were the hot showers (not before eight a.m.) and the kitties.
The first morning it started to rain, so no day at the beach. :( We took our bicycles and drove the whole morning through the rain. But at noon the sun came through the clouds.
At the beach we saw the Portugisian fisherman pulling their boats out of the water, which had been done by oxen since a few years ago. They sell the fish there at the beach.
Yes, it was as cold as Jan looks like
After a 10 kilometer drive we reached a small town named Costa Nova, which has a very particular taste of house storefront arts.
First the haven and the market
On our way back to the campsite (we wanted to spend the afternoon at the beach :D)
We met a donkey on ur way back, who is the poorest animal I have ever seen with my own eyes. Such an uncared-for creature! One of the front hooves had a brand new hoof shoe, which would never reach the ground, because the hoof had grown upwards, and the other leg was twice its normal size. The ppor guy stood there, hobbled, without any water, without the chance even to raise his head. And there was no one around, no one to ask, no one who spoke English. I searched for a Vet in the next village, but there wasn't one. I cried...
Next morning we took some pictures of the beach and drove on to Coimbra.
