VividCon turned out to be very fun. I didn't get as much out of it as I would have if I'd stayed, but I met some people, learned some things, and generally had a really good time. Next year I'll definitely be back, and I'll be in the hotel. It was rough missing the post-premiere show parties, but as rough as this month has been, I think I was better off leaving early. I got a whopping eight hours of sleep last night! Yay!
It was strange being at a con where I hardly knew anyone. I felt a little awkward at first, but I managed to chat with some people. Then, during dinner on Friday, Margie sat down next to me and introduced herself, and I said, "Oh! Prospect-L! Squee!" which tickled her enough that she introduced me to a bunch of people. [g] It was great being able to put faces with names that I've seen around but never really interacted with. During Club Vivid, I spent some time talking with
destina, which was nice--the only time I talked to her before I completely embarrassed myself fangirling her in an elevator at Escapade, which I rather hope she's forgotten. This was a huge improvement. Her and Barkley's "Copacabana" was the first vid they played at Club Vivid, and it was great. There's nothing like cha-cha-ing Serpent Guards.
Yesterday, I went to some panels, and to the "Vidding History" and "Cops & Robbers" vidshows. We had an interesting talk after the "Vidding History" show about the difficulties of finding music for historical fandoms, like Master & Commander or Magnificent 7. I had dinner with KC and Cin and
cereta, and I'm really glad to have got to know Cereta, because (a) it turns out she lives not all that far from here, and (b) she offered to help me get caught up on Batman. I don't get to talk comics in person all that often, except for Sandman. So that was fun. Then there was the premieres show, and it was fabulous. There were maybe two vids in the whole thing I didn't much like, and most of them were terrific. I do need to watch them again, though, before I say anything more; right now they're all running together.
Oh, hey,
tboy, you need to find a way to watch
P.R. Zed's new Pros vid. You'll love it.
Today we're going to go watch the
USPRO National Criterium Championship. Discovery didn't send a team this year--in fact, it looks like the team line-up is very different from what it's been in the past. Should still be a good race, though. I hope next year VividCon doesn't fall on the same weekend as this race; I don't want to have to choose between them. It probably will, though. *sigh*
Matt's doing fine, BTW. He finishes his antibiotics Wednesday morning, and I can't wait.
