Here's a few thoughts about the weather this past month or so...
Best catch-phrase I've heard so far: Come to Southern California! It's just like the Book of Revelations! (credit to
patgund for that one)
For the first time since 1950, Los Angeles has had more rain than Seattle for the same period between October 1 and February 1.
This is now the 3rd largest rainfall year in recorded history. That's for the period from July 1 to July 1 ...and it's not even the end of February yet.
At one of San Diego's man-made resorvoirs,
Lake Hodges: December 1, 2004, it was critically dry, less than 17% full. 20-foot tall trees had grown within the lake area. The boating dock was sitting on dry land, 100 feet from shore and the recreation area has been closed for some years. Two days ago, on February 21, 2005 at 4:30pm, the lake started
spilling over, and it's still spilling into the Del Mar valley along Via de la Valle (over 1.3 Billion gallons per day). They're planning to reopen to recreational boating on March 2nd, and the lake is expected to provide San Diego with 1/3rd of it's water supply this year.
Well... at least it's somewhat warm. Highs in the low 60's.
