Here's a few thoughts about the weather this past month or so...

Best catch-phrase I've heard so far: Come to Southern California! It's just like the Book of Revelations! (credit to patgund for that one)For the first time since 1950, Los Angeles has had more rain than Seattle for the same period between October 1 and February 1 ( Read more... )

...oh, and CalTrans hasn't done any work on finishing my backyard in the last couple weeks, probably because of the rain.

AND it's so close to being done !@*#

The critically low levels were, as you know (but some of your readers may not), due to the 181 consecutive days without rain, another record. (I think it was 181. Within one day of that, at least.)

At one of San Diego's man-made resorvoirs, Lake Hodges: December 1, 2004, it was critically dry, less than 17% full. 20-foot tall trees had grown within the lake area. The boating dock was sitting on dry land, 100 feet from shore and the recreation area has been closed for some years. Two days ago, on February 21, 2005 at 4:30pm, the lake started spilling over, and it's still spilling into the Del Mar valley along Via de la Valle (over 1.3 Billion gallons per day).

Woo-Hoo!

Personally, I love it when Lake Hodges spills over. It means that eventually, Poway gets free water! (Long story, no time to go into the details now... packing for vacation)
