As you may know, there is a large stand of bamboo in our backyard. It was [and is] one of the things that rocks about our yard. It's magical stuff, no matter what horrible things people say about it. Sure, it's hardy and takes a bit of controlling, but that's a small price to pay for the smooth jade trunks, the evergreen whispering wall.

There are no potatoes in the finished garden. We had planned 12' x 20, but the plot ended up 11' x 18, so we ditched the mounds. The basil---B---ended up around the basin with the rosemary and the space between the beans and cukes is empty now, waiting for Autumn peas. I figured Merlin would catch a bunny or two in the Spring. It's kind of weird,
seeing half a bunny by the front door. It's sad, and I'm glad I didn't see or hear it,
but I wouldn't have stopped him once he'd got it.
And hopefully he'll be an excellent deterrent for the garden.

Rain rain rain. I think it's been raining for 5 days now.
Which makes sense, cos it's Spring and we need rain and April showers bring May flowers.
The veggie and flower seedlings have been waiting under a table on the deck for 2 weeks now!

CT+M gave us two thornless blackberries for Christmas.
They lived through the winter in their snuggly wrapped parcel and we planted them about a month ago. We planted the first one along the edge of the yard under some high shade, but where it will get good sun. A lot of brambles seem to grow right at the edges of the woods, so I thought this would ( Read more... )

Crammed. And exhausting. But gorgeous weather, so that made it better. Friday ended
with a lovely dinner out on the deck, under the stars and then some star-gazing out on
the lawn. Our yard rocks. We never stop saying it. Rocks. Grabbed a comforter and a
candle and just laid out under the stars.

Andrew stayed home Saturday. a gorgeous day for gardening.
we went to the nursery in the morning;
got tomato plants, cukes, a few herbs from plant, a few from seed, marigolds, Pat chose a nasturtium.
the creeping phlox i wanted was on the sale table.
lots of seeds for corn and beans and herbs.

how absolutely wonderful. i hope it all comes off as a food garden.
i'll bet USDA employees would be down there every day working for a bit.
