I don't think I've ever felt this helpless in all my life. See, for those that don't know, Gretchen's car was repossessed last Saturday; basically stranding me in downtown Champaign. We got the letter saying they were coming for the car the following tuesday; yeah...we honestly didn't expect them to come for her car. I'm going to be upfront here ( Read more... )

Since you guys are already in this much trouble I'm going to agree with the previous posts. You need to look into exactly when they were supposed to repo Gri's car and threaten legal. Also, they have to wait a period of time, find out what it is. As for getting around town to get to work and such a bike is a good idea. Another good idea is to call around to people you know and offer a few bucks. Everyone is hard up now, you can help someone else while they help you. See if you guys can carpool with people that you work with. Don't have to tell 'em you got repo'ed tell 'em you got a ticket.

As for work, you called yourself a 'chump' security guard. A job is a job is a job and a pay check is a pay check. Don't call yourself a 'chump security guard' because that job is getting your cars back. In this economy you do what you have to do. You do what people hire you to do. Ray and I have both been working two jobs to get by. It sucks but if people have a need, they will hire you to do it.

Also work related ... find a way to make money from home. It costs a little start up but offer your English services as a tutor to on campus students. Even if you end up writing papers for fucking frat boys at least you can charge them out their ass. Or you edit papers. It's not ideal but if you write 3 undergrad papers a week for classes like English 101 and Communications and charge $50 a paper, that's $600 a month! That's a second part-time job without a boss! You are in a HUGE college town, think outside the box and work on your own by providing a service!

As for money ... this is where prioritizing comes in. Of course you can't not feed Bentley or something like that but you can cut back on cellphone charges (less mins/no texting), cable (which would also help electricity), food, and electricity.

That's all I've got. But it's a lot. *hugs to both of you* We love you and if you need anything, give a call.
