Weekend Bullets

  • Accidentally parked my bike next to a major bike event Almost didn't get out and home intact/on time. I love this city, but sometimes, I am a bit exasperated by it.
  • Saturday morning we cleaned up a portion of the beach on Sauvie Island for pre-Earth Day. (Un?)fortunately we didn't cleanup the nudie part of the beach. I figured there would be more litter there since no one would have pockets. Turns out the ranger-type people did a pass-through, pre-clean prior to the arrival of us volunteers, so the most dangerous items we found were beer bottles rather than syringes or car parts. Mostly I picked up cigarette butts (my hand has touched at least two hundred people's mouths. :P) and chunks of styrofoam. I'm convinced that given enough time and glue, I could probably reconstruct an entire 10 gallon cooler with the crumbled bits of foam I picked up.
  • We skipped out of the food cart festival and just had ourselves some mobile gyros instead. Excellent! And we didn't have to wait in line for 45 minutes for a bite of food.

  • To combat the inevitable gyro-nap, I biked to Ikea, because that is what you do.

Somebody has to use the bike racks!
  • Yesterday we, meaning The Mister, did a mess of yard work. A year of "benign neglect" plus the deep freezing/snow we got earlier this year did a number on the fussy plantings the previous homeowners installed on the property. I am trying, again, to reclaim/rehabilitate our pond as well. This time I'm thinking about digging out a second pond and setting up a proper filtration system. Thinkin' real hard about it too.
  • After unsuccessfully digging at a stump near The Hell Pond (yesterday I commented that the blackened waters smelled like "the a**hole of Satan") I ended up making a ginormous batch of meaty spaghetti sauce.
  • I cleaned my bike! I've had this thing for, what, six years now? This was the first time I cleaned it. It is now a dirty blue bike instead of a dirt-colored bike.
  • What's the perfect meal to end a near-80-degree crazy sunny day of yard/garage work? Why, boiling hot pot of course! I could actually feel the chili pepper paste they used to make the soup super spicy at midnight. :P But it was still good!
