Digging Out

2008 went by in a green flash. So many things happened, but they all seemed to happen allatonce and suddenly I'm having trouble remembering to turn all my "08"'s into "09"'s. (Let's not even mention the fact that every once in a while, I start out the year with a "19".) (OK, so I just did.)

Just had my more-or-less-annual physical and am now on referral for a bunch of "damn, I'm getting old" follow-up appointments. Our healthcare provider is Kaiser Permanente. I don't really have any beef with them - they did a great job taking care of The Mister a while back - but I get the sneaking suspicion that if you are even somewhat healthy, they really don't want anything to do with you.

I need to make time in the next week or so to call the mental health help-line and have a fifteen minute assessment (again, over the phone) to determine if I need Help. Sheesh. Almost makes me want to just get better on my own - only I know now that that ain't gonna happen. So, onward through the labyrinthine HMO system!

Saturday we received a package from michiko_x and starkraving - a most excellent way to start the new year. They went overboard with the kitschy and kitcheny goodness. It alternates, but right now I am most excited about this. That coupled with the Alton Brown workbook pretty much fulfilled every foodie dream I didn't even know I had. (If you click the link, it'll tell Amazon you came from Wil Wheaton's site because he and I are on the same food-geek page today and seeing his mention of the book reminded me that I needed to testify to y'all about the existence of such a marvelous tome.)(And the fact that I have marvelous friends who see said tome and go "Oh! The 'Snarks would totally love that!" Because we do. And they are.) (And, um, where was I?)

I suppose I should be doing some sort of listy roundup of 2008, and also some effort toward prognostication for 2009 - but honestly I've just been feeling so beat down lately that I'm celebrating little things like finally getting my appetite back and rediscovering the cleaning ability of baking soda + vinegar - not the most scintillating blog fodder.

But there are more pics to post. So there's that.

friends, kvetch, body horror
