Soo, yeah. The nice place in Greenwood Lake was, in fact, very nice, but ultimately it was just too small for us. On a whim during the snow day on Wednesday, I started looking through Craig's List and came across a place in Yonkers. I rolled my eyes at the Yonkers idea, but I looked anyway and I couldn't believe what I was looking at. After doing some research, Steve and I called the landlord and set up an appointment to check this place out the following evening after work. Steve snuck over there during his lunch break at work on Thursday and couldn't stop raving about how much I'd love it. So, after work we met over there and I was rendered speechless over this place. Yes. Me. I was speechless. For about five whole minutes. This place blew the Greenwood Lake place right out of the water. Even if it is in Yonkers.
The apartment is the ground floor of a Victorian house that was built in 1891 with wood that was brought over from England. It's about 1500 square feet or so. There's a mud room when you first walk in with a mini-solarium to grow plants in. We get to have fresh herbs! YAY! From there, you walk into the kitchen, which is just to die for. Granite counter tops that seem to go on forever, an enormous pantry, a full-size fridge, stand-up freezer, dishwasher, garbage disposal, oh, and did I mention the DCS 6-burner stove with griddle, dual ovens (yes, there's two) and a plate warmer with heat lamps? I think the kitchen is the size of my bedroom at my current apartment. And out of curiousity, I just looked up the price tag for the stove (which Steve has lovingly named The Beast) and it retail's around $9,000. That's... freaking insane. I don't know who's idea it was to install The Beast in the first place, but damnit, I'll love them for it, and every time Steve mentions the kitchen, he just about starts to drool.
The bathroom is pretty big (double the size of my current one, and triple the size of Steve's current one) with his/her sinks and granite counter tops. My only complaint is that it's a stall shower, so there's no bathtub. Le sigh. Guess I'll have to hijack someone else's tub if I want to take a bath. But the stall -is- huge, so at least it shouldn't feel cramped.
The master bedroom is immense with bookshelves all along one of the walls, which is awesome because I was seriously stressing about the possibility of getting rid of some books that I really didn't want to toss/donate. There's also a sun room attached with sliding glass doors that lead out to a small porch. Oh, I almost forgot. The stained glass. THE STAINED GLASS. The master bedroom has two stained glass portraits, one of William Shakespeare, and one of John Milton. OMGWTF. Shakespeare? Seriously? I thought Steve was jerking my chain when he first told me about it, but no, it's there and it's amazing. Someone also had the thought to install a light just outside of the window so that you could enjoy the stained glass even when the sun isn't shining.
Okay, so I think I've gushed about our new place enough for now.
Just one quick gush about Steve... He got me a nook! Sooo damn excited! YAY!
Damn I love my life.
